mdgoonah41 we needed to renovate the squad, I think we all agree on that. But if we're talking about allocation of funds, value for money (etc.) I'd suggest that isn't (nor should it be) the responsibility of the manager. Our recruitment/negotiation teams do need to do better there.

Don Pacifico Nah. I think it's very obvious Arteta wants new signings at all cost, instead of finding internal solutions. It's not the board or Edu who thinks we need new signings all the time

Don Pacifico its been written many times that arteta tells edu who he wants. i thought it was reported over the summer that arteta stumped for havertz and wanted him. i doubt we'd blow that kind of money on a chelsea reject if arteta didnt want him here

Where the internal solution is appropriate, Arteta has taken it. Where it isn’t, he has bought. One thing that is comforting is there is real clarity. You know what kind of players he needs. Whenever I see a rumour in the paper I can quickly determine whether it’s real or not because I know what qualities Arteta values in each space of the field.

As per what RtC said, Arteta can absolutely have his preferences but I would also argue that Edu (plus our recruitment team) should be able to critique prices/valuations. To just go after the players Arteta wants and sign them without challenging Arteta (as appears to be the case) is not doing due diligence.

mdgoonah41 which is how it should be to be honest, it's not for Edu to tell Arteta who we should be signing. It IS for Edu to tell Arteta (as it seems he should have) that £65m for Kai Havertz was too much.

Net spend for us for the last 5 seasons (ie. since Arteta rebuild): -€645.5m

Net spend for Liverpool over the same time period from Klopp's first season (ie. rebuild): -€122.5m

Yes, we required a 'bigger' rebuild but I find it hard to suggest that we've been as efficient in our fund allocation.

Newsflash, pretty much every manager wants new signings and to improve the team all the time. I was speaking to a couple of Liverpool fans who think it’s one of the main reasons he’s leaving.

You just need to look at both our respective squads over the past few years and see which one is made up more of unknown academy players rather than old squad fillers.

for me it was a tale of him winning me over after not liking him much prior to last season. i felt this is so ridiculous that he must have great plans for him and see him as the missing piece (£65m and 275k/wk is missing piece money), he's earned the benefit of the doubt. well he lost it all and is back to pre-2022 status with me: the arrogant shit who thought he knew more than everyone else and saliba wasn't good enough for his mighty squad but £50m CB ben white was.
