They're just as likely to pull up our disciplinary record and fine the club again for failing to control our players with having 4 red cards in our last 6 games.

Arteta's comments were very reasonable. He said he'd never seen anything like it and that to give two yellows for that, the referee has got to be pretty enthusiastic. Also the latest law of the game suggests it should've been one only.

Great result. Hope the three points and that embarrassing decision raise morale and some siege mentality, absolutely no fucking chance that call gets made against any other team. Pretty sure it's not only insanely petty but factually wrong, just like you don't pull back a free kick if a fouled attacker proceeds to shoot you don't caution a defender if he unsuccessfully tries to stop an attack from happening.

They were both daft yellow card offences but yes, the ref should've seen sense once he'd let play go on.

It was a foul throw.
It was a daft foul on the throw.
If Gabigol was to be cautioned for the block, play should've been stopped and Wolves shoulda had a FK.
But play wasn't stopped. Gabi doesn't know he's on a yellow, makes a professional foul (a daft one). He should've just been carded and cautioned verbally for the previous offence. But like others have said... he wanted to give that red.

It's not about seeing sense. It's just outright not legal. He can't give that at all, that's why you have never see it in football.

There's another rule that says if the offence is for a foul outside the pitch (throw ins etc) you have to stop play if you want to caution the guy. Can't have it both ways. Oliver made that up

If refs are going to be that fussy then they could literally double the amount of yellows they give.

Was convinced Partey would pick up another yellow. You’re just on edge.

Red cards really need to be reserved for serious foul play or events which deny an obvious goal scoring opportunity

Partey was so unlucky to receive the first booking of the game too; Saiss and co were no less belligerent at that point. You could see the bias uncloak from that moment.

The booking was certainly bizarre but refs do give advantages even when fouls deemed booking worthy have been committed. The thing is the player who commits the foul is almost never involved in later phase of play so it doesn't come to pass.

Another thing on that sending off, it was Michael fucking Oliver! A ref who usually lets teams away with assault on the pitch before booking them. Clearly he was annoyed about something someone said or whatever and decided to punish us for it.

I'm convinced it's a perception issue. Arsenal do stupid things on the pitch and get silly red cards so any chance they get to reinforce that view, they take it. 'look at this fucker committing two fouls within seconds, I could give him two yellows for that, in fact that's what I'll do'.

Technicalities aside, they should ask themselves whether they need to give a red card, not whether they can.

I don't know what it is, a bit of a combination of things probably but I do think refs are looking to card us at times, just look at that Partey stat for instance. The question for me is why? Is it the way we deal with them as a club, how the players talk to them, etc? Maybe its a perception issue as you say but if it is then its something we've created. The thing is we do have a discipline issue. The cards were extremely harsh IMO but talking to other people outside of Arsenal fans today nobody cares because they can see Martinelli doing things that yellow cards are given for. The first one was particularly stupid and petty and shithousey.

Whatever the case (as we now know and the dumbass ref should have already known), Oliver shouldn't have red carded him because the first foul was to stop an attack and not serious foul play. So, we got screwed again.

I missed the game but from what I'm reading this morning it seems like he was pissed off about not getting a free too. Obviously theres an element of inexperience to it but its also lead by players like Laca and Xhaka trying make things niggly and break up play. If you decide to be that cynical you'll end up with cards. Theres a really worrying trend now with the red cards, its already cost us in the LC, possibly against City and if we keep going this way it'll cost us a CL place.

Martinelli wasn't pissed he didn't get the freekick - it was never a freekick and he didn't claim for one. He was just trying to stop the quick throw.
