Going full Championship Manager on de Tomas ...

Numbers seem okay, scores all types of goals too. 5'10" or so in height. Has a £60m release clause and he's 27. Has been affected by minor knee and ankle issues in recent seasons, but not too badly. Not particularly speedy, but lively.

If we pay that money for him it's going to look bad and will be a suboptimal deal no matter what, but seems he might be useful.

I'd rather not sign anyone than waste 90 million on Isak. Just burn it all , dump Edu and Arteta and start over in the summer . Have all our targets lined up and get them in early to give the new manager and his staff time to work and hit the ground running.

We won't get him below the release clause, especially since that would mean that Real Sociedad wouldn't get that month extra to get a new striker in that they only get if a release clause is triggered.

I'm inclined to just hope we say fuck it and pay it all. His potential is huge although I see him as a pretty big risk.

You'd consider not signing Isak for his release clause because we'd maybe not be getting great value when you're as unhappy as you are with our current options and think our top 4 chances would at the very least be considerably increased by his addition?

I'm saying that I'm inclined to hope that we do sign him, but acknowleding that we're taking a big risk because he's far from a "sure thing" the way I see it. I also acknowledge that it's a risk we have to take because we've been getting dicked around all month by Vlahovic who every journalist on the planet has said that wasn't interested at all in joining us and because our transfer business has been so terrible this window that I don't see any possible way to have a chance at top 4 than to pay up now.
