We have to bribe him to come here. So be it. It’s not ideal, but if he is deemed to be a special one, then his demands should be mostly acquiesced to.

This kind of opportunity will come around very rarely for us these days.

Even then those clubs would offer him huge wages too, we're probably not being ripped off (if true) all that much.

United are paying Sancho 300-350k a week, Chelsea are paying Haverzt 300k+, can only imagine what Haaland will get.

Main question is, will he justify it?

However, it now looks like the Serbia international’s potential move to the Emirates Stadium is in doubt due to the hefty financial demands of his agent.
Various sources suggest that Vlahovic could have been ready to join Arsenal, and that the north London giants were offering enough to persuade his club to let him go.
However, if Arsenal don’t manage to get the 21-year-old in, it seems it will be because his agent has stepped in to block things, or at least delay them until the summer.

Yeah agreed in general.. Just thinking it can cause issues long term with player contracts... especially if he doesn't turn out to be worth it.. Saka/Martinelli/our top players, will ask for the same ( and rightly so).. how many can we afford while having a solid team?

Or maybe we just have to do what needs to be done. Dont know...

I call bullshit on this Italian journalist's article. Arsenal might not get things right enough to win the really big trophies in the coming years, but there's absolutely no doubt that is the objective. I reckon that's just Arsenal's reputation preceding them, and the journalist doesn't know things are changing.

Not following this one too closely but if he decides not to come are we linked with anyone else this window? Or is it a case of waiting until the summer.

A top striker might push us into the CL, that alone will probably go a long way towards paying for the striker.

If we're going to have top players we'll have to pay top wages. I don't know if Vlahovic will definitely become an elite player (I have every confidence he will), he's not quite there at the moment, but if Saka and Martinelli to reach that kind of level then they will need to be paid in line with that, whether Vlahovic is here earning mega money or not.

I tend toward thinking the figures are exaggerated anyway. I think what Vlahovic has done so far, and at only 21 years of age, gives him the right to demand parity with all but the very best out there, so I don't think something like £150-200k a week would be unreasonable.

Hopefully we can get back to a position where we can afford to have multiple players in the squad earning £300k+ a week because we're back competing in the Champions League and for League titles.

Absolutely, it's what we need to do. But it has to be a player that could conceivably make that kind of wage elsewhere beyond their time with Arsenal. We have to negotiate as hard as possible to depress the coming wage inflation so it stays in line with the club's cycle and it doesn't tank us.

Our highest paid player should probably be our top striker. That's normal. Parity with Auba on around 250k/week makes sense to me. Pushing beyond 300k straight up for a 21 year old is probably too much when you factor in he's the same age as ESR. 250k/week plus a hefty signing bonus with loyalty clauses would be a healthier approach.

Certainly not at this stage in his career. If we bought him and he's proved to be our best striker and had top class performances during that time I'd be comfortable giving him that sort of wage on his next contract.

Only way I'd consider him worth that kind of wage when buying him now is if we were to buy him after a few seasons of top class performances. And yes I know we'd be outpriced in that situation.

Being our best forward these days isn't saying much with Auba off form and banished and the rest a much of muchness.
