Random thoughts:
Vlahovic's perceived value is inflated due to the domino effect re Haaland;
Haaland was bracket 1 until the point he proved himself in a top5 domestic league with BVB in the BL;
Vlahovic did the same last season in Serie A but with a smaller club with lower quality resources;
The time to go all out for Vlahovic is now and not to wait for the summer when more clubs may have more finances;
Fiorentina want/are prepared to sell;
In terms of wages I'd prefer we restructured our wages away from the idea we have to pay OTT. My preference is to have a lower end base line salary in line with player status within the team (starting, key, rotation, squad etc), and then having incentive & bonus payments (appearances, goals, assists, chances created, key passes, level of UEFA comp, wins, silverware, titles etc).
The bulk of their revenue is generated directly from how well they perform in their role, and how well the team performs as a result.
That said I understand the reason as to why we have not done so to date, as it means we do not know what the annual wage bill will be at the start of the season because of the incentive/bonus payments, whereas under the current structure we do and can budget accordingly. We still have bonuses but they are directly tied to team improvements to revenue such as prizemoney, UEFA etc, rather than individual performances.
