Sorry to break it to you but expectations and predictions are 2 different things. I expect a club like us to be in the top 4, but with a manager like this at the helm it's better to predict something lower and be pessimistic like what my last sentence of the prediction post mentioned.

We are about 3 years too late from 4th, not 1 year early.

Emery should've got fourth himself, but I also reckon that wouldn't have led to anything more than another fucked up season of tinkering. It's the departure of Sanllehi and the long overdue movement from KSE on investment that are slowly changing things now.

the success of the new recruits means we can really be laser focused on a midfielder and striker. for many years we've been plagued by an endless game of whackamole trying to plug the gaps in the squad. guys like mustafi, lacazette and xhaka looked like they needed replacing within 12 months of buying them and it took us years to recover from the cascading effect of poor signings in the spine of the team. for the first time in 5 years it feels like we might be clear of the whackamole era

Me neither. Whether the investments are good is all that matters, and they've been for the most part. It's not like a new manager won't find use for Ramsdale, Ødegaard and Tomiyasu.

This race is going to be bloody tight, isn’t it?

West Ham could be 5 points ahead of us (albeit we would have two games in hand) and Utd two points above us (equal games played) by the time we play Spurs making the NLD even bigger than it is.

If we can use today and the last 4 weeks as a blue print we should be fine but I still don’t trust us. Even today when we were 1-0 up and playing brilliant football I thought we would somehow find a way to let City win this (I know ref fucked us).

We need to be absolutely clinical and ruthless in all games moving forward.

Forget about what's going on around us, everyone will drop points whether it's now or later on. The key is to make sure we stay relatively consistent. Keep up the home form and a slight uptick in the away form and we'll be sorted.

Agreed but we can’t have any more crisis games like Everton away.

I get what you are saying but my point is that the margin of error is not great. We need to be almost flawless imo.

I think 3rd and 4th are going to be up for grabs between 5 teams. NLD will dictate whether the scum or us are favourites alongside Chelsea.

Leicester (h)
Burnley (a)

In amongst this they have two games against Spurs the league cup, the club world cup and the start of their CL campaign.

Tottenham's fixture list is a little better but not much, especially when you factor in the games that need to be rescheduled. After Spurs we've actually got a series of winnable games in the league.

Agreed with this and I'm hoping our recent run and today's performance v MC encourages KSE to push on and invest NOW rather than wait for the summer = we have yet to complete the rebuild of the match day squad.

Depends if we get double game week after Spurs. We could play re-arranged fixtures of Chelsea away/Liverpool at home/Wolves at home. Hopefully it’s the latter.

As for top4 our current position shows it IS achievable, however IMO the question should now be is it retainable for the rest of the season? To this my answer is NO, not without strengthening in Jan.
To put it another way IMO we have shown we do have the quality and game required to compete for top4 on merit, but I do not think we have the complete team required to retain top4 once we reach it, much as WHU are experiencing. That said I do not expect us to bottle it as LCFC have done these last 2 seasons.

I doubt it. Ozil had been doing fuck all on the pitch for around 2-3 years before we tried to sell him. Lukaku has still got the ability to bang in goals for most teams.

Clubs were not exactly fighting it out for Lukaku last season, and the only team stupid enough to pay that much for a 29yr old with a poor record at top PL sides has already been burned by him.
