Mirth Two - where I have a little more sympathy for them is that they're run by some absolute charlatans. Football owners are bottom of the barrel in general but they've got owners that have created a terrible culture internally, split the fans from the club, refused to re-invest in infrastructure and have no real idea or plan about what they want.
The lack of re-investment in infrastructure is an excellent point. This is something both Ronaldo and Rangnick voiced publicly when they arrived, that United's facilities haven't been updated since the early 00s, and they were criticised for it. They've been knocking around Europe's top leagues and top clubs and knew that United fell short in comparison but somehow it was considered improper to voice those concerns. I'm sure they brought it up on club level before speaking publicly too.
Rangnick famously said the entire club needed open-heart surgery, and rather than hiring a surgeon they went and got Ten Hag who's a yes man more than happy to work within the parameters he's been given. With owners like this nothing will get better, because they're the source of the rot. And that's where United are at the moment. Incompetence breeds incompetence.
It reminds me of the Swedish FA a bit where they sacked all the people who had been working for decades and gave the top job to the former Prime Minister. The organisational responsibility was given to someone who had been working administratively and got a promotion. The only one with any kind of football knowledge was Kim Källström, who's literally never had a real job before. Jesus wept.
