club probably felt it better to go with what we had than bring in a spare who might end up being the type of waste of money that we have struggled to wrest ourselves from (like Pepe, Willian, etc.).

The speed with which our summer business was done showed that we were prepared and precise. I like that. This is all such a big change from when it was clear this club was daft

Sure I mean there are always rationales, just as there were last season when we choked and missed the league title by 5 points from a situation that was "pinch yourself you might be dreaming" positive.

I couldn't be a great deal happier with the way the club's being run. Used to be you'd be furious the club wasn't doing obvious things to improve. Now it's more like I'm regularly surprised by unforeseeable clever things the club's doing.

However: we need to bloody win something.

Saliba doesn't deserve to hog all the praise, this guy deserves a thread bump too. Superb today. Would be an error for Arteta to tinker with that partnership.

Arteta should never weird ass experiments again.

Rules of the season moving forward:

1) Partey is NOT a RB. Play him in midfield period.
2) Start Gabriel every game (bar domestic cups maybe) when fit.
3) Havertz is NOT a number 8. ‘Plan B’ striker - let him be what Giroud should have been for us, an off the bench option up front.

Gazza M we'd see Jurrien in Zinny's place more often than not IMO.

Gazza M I think thats part of being a manager though. Injuries and other issues often forced Wenger to find solutions that he then stuck with. And we don't know if Timber might have been moved to the right on Zinchenkos return.

Gazza M it's been a blessing in disguise tbh. Allowed us back our best cb partnership and probably also gave Tomi more game time to become a natural inverted LB

Qwiss it felt different with Wenger though. arteta demands and gets what he wants in terms of recruitment, and sometimes makes a meal out of his tactical choices. Wenger asked for little by comparison and just left himself constantly short on options, and that was the root cause of his forced improvisation, but I never felt injuries saved us from overwrought strategic choices like with arteta. sans injuries, there's a good chance gabriel would still be on the bench, for example. willian getting injured and ESR saving his bacon is another
