Sicario2 - Tier 1 why? What that would actually show us is incredibly bad luck with injuries. We can't endlessly buy players in fear that everyone will get injured. It's not financially sustainable and it's also not sustainable in terms of personnel management.

We could have loaned cover, and it was alleged we were making enquiries about loans as the window closed. Given how we ended up suffering last season, not responding to Timber's injury was the one major failing of the window.

We can still get cover in winter, and I definitely hope we line a player up then because fatigue was a big factor for White and Saliba last season. Meanwhile, fingers crossed this Gabriel situation is nothing serious.

Burnwinter maybe. Timber is a young player so we were never going to buy a player out right. And even a loan at that stage of the window feels unlikely because you're left with players like Cedric (etc.) because most serious clubs have shifted or committed the vaguely talented options (not even mentioning how specific our profile of player is when it comes to Timber's role in the squad).

If Gabriel were out (still unclear but the news is vaguely positive) we would be playing across four competitions with only one quality defender on the bench. One more injury is then tactically damaging and we can't rotate. It's dropped points, fatigue and more injuries.

Incidental injuries are what the squad's for. Season long injuries like Timber's are best covered by transfers.

QuincyAbeyie not really. I'm just saying that if we didn't think he was viable in the first place then we needed to refresh the squad further by getting rid of and replacing him. As it is, we bought Timber to help provide cover. So the only reason we're discussing it is because Timber suffered a really unfortunate injury.

Unfortunate, sure, but I can't figure out why that means you just eat it and move on. If we needed Timber to begin with, surely we needed to replace him? He may never be the same player again for all we know.
