It always reminds me of Bayern saying Pepe is not suited for a possession team, but he is great for transition and counter attacks.

He does have great games when we are dominating possession, but I vividly also remember he was superb during the period Emery sit back in away games and Arteta playing back 5 in big cup games.

I actually don't think he's that good on the transition, there's been a few situations where you see him isolate someone 1v1 and get all excited for him, only for a loose touch or mis control to let him down. I think I'm as disappointed for him as I am for us 😆

Come to think of it, has he had many good moments on the break? I can't think of many.

I still feel like we should have tried him up top. He's 100% at his best when he's in the box.

Pepe struggles when he has too many options. He is also not perfect technically. Too often for us he receives the ball far from the opposition box or if it's in the final third we don't do a good enough job of isolating him with the full back. Pepe could have been more dangerous if our opposite flank was our go to area, the one catching the attention of opposing managers and coaches. He has end product though and we haven't built a side around his end product.

His game has changed so much since he arrived. In his first few games with us he’d bamboozle defenders.

Pepe is a wasteman, that’s why he will never make it as an elite player.

He’s a nice guy but doesn’t have fire in the belly.

So what happens next with Nico? Does Arteta let him back into the fold as an option when we need to rest Saka? He can still be serviceable I think. Come off the bench like Reiss Nelson. Had totally forgotten he's still our employee.

He has no future here, he has proved that already. He went in a league that is so bad, that fat man Lacazette got 26 goals, and still, he somehow managed to be poor. He is just not a good player. We will be lucky to make a 5 mil on him, considering his wages. Edu will have to go for his main move and pay him to leave. Boy did we get played on this one. 70 fucking million

HomeSteak don't think is an entirely fair assessment. Sometimes you're not a good fit for a system that accordingly doesn't enable to show your best self (eg. Bergkamp and Henry when they were in Italy). Additionally, it seems Pepe is very much a confidence player and given his experience at the club and I wouldn't blame him for having lost that self-belief that you need to succeed in any walk of life.
