I would get Auba and Pepe out along with the departing Laca and Nketiah. Then try for two out of:

Alvarez, Nunez , Isak , Jonathan David and Vlahovic.

I would prefer Alvarez and Vlahovic from those.

Furuhashi looks an interesting player for Celtic. Good agility, balance and movement, though a bit on the smaller side.

He is very impressive. Positioning and knack for goals one of the best out there and impressive stamina/technique. Would bring him here as backup for wing and can complement Tomi too.

no striker out there is going to thrive in this setup. but we do need someone who's mentally very strong as they'll have to deal with long stretches of limited service, is clinical when the chaces do arrive, and is able to bring others into play. no biggie

I think it depends on whether we're looking for a target man (a la Giroud or Adebayor) or an out-and-out goalscorer (late era Van Persie). The latter is more difficult to find but I feel like there are plenty of options that will help out overall play/opportunity creation (and ultimately goals scored).

rvp became a decent hold up player in his later years. his technique was always impeccable, but he grew to be able to win physical tussles and play others in as well. such a shame we only truly benefited for 1 season

Get Isak and spend a season or two on helping him take the final steps to becoming world class. Or get someone who is a bit shit, like Calvert-Lewin, but will suit our football which is also a little bit shit, and will make sure that it stays that way. It all depends on what the short-term target is.

We seem to be in no hurry to finish any higher than 8th, so maybe Isak would be a better bet with that in mind. But I think we will find it hard to get the most out of him if we can't support him with better attacking football. I feel that's an issue we're going to have with a lot of other potential targets too. It's hard to get anyone young to thrive when we've built a team that is only good for a goal per game.

IMO I think we already have the clues as to what style of CF we can expect if we are to accept the idea that Arteta wants to play a style based in Juego De Posicion AND that we tried to sign Tammy Abraham last summer.

That said I don't think we are interested in a target man any more than we want a finisher/poacher, or even a pressing forward. I also don't think we want a creative deep lying forward/false9 to play 'in the hole'. IMO we want someone more akin to a hybrid type who is able to lead the line as main goal scorer, can come short to lay the ball off (and can then get back into scoring positions), and who also provides a physical challenge.

My concern is I also think budget will impact the decision so I don't expect to see anyone valued 50m or above, and we may see some 'lesser known' players possibly even from outside the Big5 UEFA domestic leagues, and/or from a club that needs to generate revenues post COVID.

I know what you mean but in general terms the signings made in the summer have all done well so I'm happy to trust their judgement if they are not placed under any additional funding restrictions as such.

That said based upon current information that 50m cut-off likely eliminates the 3 main contenders in Vlahovic, Isak and DC-L.

Belotti will be cheaper as he will be a free agent(?) but talk is he wants to remain in Italy, whilst there is talk we want a loan with an option to buy for Jovic.
En-Nesyri still has a few year left on contract?

We have been 'linked' to a few others including Jonathan David, Darwin Nunez and even Gabi Barbosa, but I'm not sure any of them suit the lone CF role, although I do think they could make for some potentially interesting striker combos.

EDIT - That said IMO we are still at a disadvantage in the market unless we regain UEFA qualification, as neither Arteta or Edu have much in the way of credibility/accomplishments to attract players of themselves, as our play under Arteta has not been inspiring and the rebuild under Edu has been both incomplete and lacked balance or even a spine 'fit for purpose'.

because we are at a disadvantage in the market based on our team performance, when we spend 50m+ it's overpaying on players the big clubs don't really want. the cheaper players that you scout and have a feeling about are the ones we are most likely to have success with. the kind of players the big clubs might want to see more from before they go after.

I don't disagree and I'd include both PEA and Laca as being poster boys for that 50m cut-off, because IMO we signed them without having a proper plan in sight, and didn't look any further than their goal scoring and didn't stop to think if they'd fit the role required.

I actually like DCL, he's made something out of his extremely limited potential, has good work rate and an insane aerial presence on him. But if we spend 100m or whatever it'll cost to sign this plodder I'm done with Arsenal

simeone is too old for this project and is who he is at this point. gouiri is a good shout though ... at the right cheap price (20m-ish).

Hasn't he since signed a new deal with Inter as he was going to be a free agent at the end of the season? I think our interest was as much about opportunity as anything.
