I also think it is significant in terms of being able to adapt, that he has come from having already successfully adapted to another top5 league that is not his domestic league.

Bloody outstanding performance. He's a bigger, stronger, faster Sagna! Looks maybe in the same class as the brilliant Frenchman when it comes to positioning and reading of the game too. Every single time Son went at him I fancied Tomiyasu to win the battle. And he did, every time.

Son is pretty much the hardest winger to come up against in this league the way I see it.

Though I disagree with those who say that fullbacks' offensive contributions are overrated. It's really important and I hope he'll be up to the task.

What comes through from that comp is great discipline, low risk in his decision-making, and precise execution. Crisp and quick in the tackle and press, reliable and conservative in his choice of clearances.

I don't think attacking will feature too much on the role he's been given. He forms a back three with White and Gabriel when we're playing out the back, and then gets a bit of freedom to attack and overlap when we move further up the pitch, but predominantly he's a part of the defensive unit rather than the attacking one (unlike Tierney).

I think Tomiyasu can contribute going forward without being great on the ball. He is comfortable enough and covers a lot of ground. He has gone forward loads creating space with his runs. He needs to develop a partnership to link up and time his runs better. I had never seen him and was really sceptical about a center back playing right back but he is just so good. Amazingly always switched on.

Tierney is a bigger issue right now anyway. Has looked pretty blunt for a good while now, no comparison to about a year ago imo

We are actually managing to play without everything going through Tierney so naturally he looks less involved. TBF its come with a bit more defensive stability down his side too, not the worst trade off.

Yeah, his crossing and delivery is pretty bad right now. He goes through these cycles though, usually when he's not 100% sharp.

Yup. We bought a CB like him to play RCB and that is what he is doing. If we wanted a balance formation we would have bought a RB.

He has the added bonus of being ambidextrous so he actually adds more to our formation play without even joining the attacks or putting in any cross.

He reads attackers intentions so well, he’s also so alive to rebounds.

Tierney needs to be fully fit to perform well. He has very thick legs, and he’ll tire unless he’s in peak shape
