Arteta has made us difficult to beat. We are a top team. However, the system that makes us a tough team to go through also impedes individuals. I think Odegaard and even Saka would look much better under managers that don't put defence first. If it brings us a title, I don't care.

Sicario2 just fyi Odegaard was our player of the season 2 years in a row and got us to the level where we were challenging for titles in the first place. In that sense Rice hasn’t changed our level at all.

15 goals from open play to 8 with a few penalties to 3 then now just 1 in half a seson

Also last 12-15 months seen a tendency to be afraid to pass forward or shoot

He's been carrying the ball excessively all season, including in preseason, including lateral or backwards running. I'm assuming this is under instruction but it's bloody annoying to watch.

Sicario2 yes, and Odegaard was our player of the season in 23/24 too. Meanwhile, last season when Odegaard was injured, we had our worst season yet.

Odegaard now is in poor form and may even need to have his place in the squad seriously questioned. But Rice is the guy that was supposed to make us title challengers to winners and that hasn’t happened yet. So your talk of credit in the bank should be directed to the player that actually needs it

He’s captain for a reason. He totally adheres to Controlball. So unless he’s 100% sure he won’t lose the ball he’ll play it safe.

Twice in a row now he’s been taken off. Under Arteta that either means you’re on the wrong trajectory or he’s carrying a knock. I’m guessing the latter - which also explains why he’s been shit!

Odegaard’s been poor for a while but as is the case with all of our attacking players, one has to wonder whether he would improve with a change in our attacking approach.
