Qwiss Getting an attacking mid to cover Odegaard isn't realistic with all this going on. Especially not when you have Nwaneri, Merino, Havertz, etc plus Dowman coming through.
Fully agree with this, that is, unless the player is outrageous.
A main reason we haven't used "attacking" midfielders other than Ødegaard in recent seasons is that few of them are as good as him at the combination of positioning, pressing and creating in our system.
Vieira's product was nowhere near worth it given what we lost over a Rice or Havertz. Smith Rowe was also excluded based on similar claims, despite being much better than Vieira.
The same would presently be true of Nwaneri whose all round game isn't yet at the level needed. He's got a lot to learn. He'll be a great understudy to Saka if he will accept the role for another season or two.
The role is extremely demanding in our system. A big hope if we sign a new and improved 6 would be a little bit of load off Ødegaard tracking deep to participate in the build-up and beat the press.
It is a shame Øde is in very poor form as when he's not, he's something of a unicorn. When he was in last season's form quite a bit of the talk was about how we needed a left-sided version of him in place of Rice.
