How has the situation in La Liga spiralled out control with regards to racism, in particular directed to Vinicius Jr who should be revered across the league.

Fans have been targeting him all season with vile abuse and now they're brazenly doing it outside the grounds.

Some version of this (perhaps not quite so brazen) always happens any time a Black or Indigenous athlete takes on the Australian Rules system over here, club or league administrators. The person who's been singled out for abuse is soon re-presented as the problem.

The La Liga chief has really made things worse. The guy loves the sound of his voice too much and is always moaning about Barca but his comments on this aren't right.

Needs to be strong sporting sanctions here, a slap on the wrist here isn't going to cut it.

Nothing about this is unique to Spain of course but the extent to which racists feel emboldened to go to such lengths certainly is. If nothing else, you'd think the Head of La Liga would be aware of their global reputation and that it's a league that relies on the goodwill of fans across the globe - particularly South America - to keep it relevant. Their Head of PR probably called in sick this morning to avoid cleaning up this shitshow.
