Surprising how Simeone has managed to find him a position and get the best out of him. He looked a colossal waste of money for the first 2 seasons.

well simeone is a great coach and they don't have an unlimited budget so if a really expensive player isn't working out like you originally thought you have to go back to the drawing board and make it work. if arteta was about anything he would have done the same for pepe.

Lets not sugarcoat the Lemar situation.

Simeone and Ateltico really tried to get rid of Lemar but nobody would sign him for his overinflated transfer fee.

When an injury crisis happened last season and they were down to bare bones in midfield, Simeone had no choice but somehow reintegrate Lemar in the first team

They did try to sell him but I don't think Simeone really "had no choice", who were the injured players he got in ahead of?

He looked completely lost after he was signed in 2018 and lost his spot because there were better options like Felix, Saul, Llorente etc. The form curve of those looks worse now and coincidentally he looks a lot closer to the Monaco version again, can't really say whether that's down to him or Simeone in training so full credit to Lemar for getting back to his best. Always thought he was the most talented in that Monaco team bar Mbappe of course.

His first way back into reckoning was when Lodi got injured as a left back/wing back in tandem with Carrasco.

Saul then had some injuries then lost form and Simeone's relation with him deteriorated.

Hector Herrera should have been his replacement but he either is always injured or not that convincing.

So, Simeone tried Lemar as a left sided box to box and so far things have worked like a treat.

This kid is something else. Goes to show there's no such thing as karma or things evening out, Barcelona had Messi now they get a taller version. If he stays fit he'll score close to 20 this season is my guess even with Jabba the Hut managing him.

I just watched Rayo Vallecano - Barca. Vallecano won after a goal from Falcao. Depay missed a penalty and then Koeman brought on De Jong in the dying minutes and watched him attempt to chip the ball into a practically open net after the keeper came way too far out, only to miss the goal altogether 😆

Surely Xavi will be a disaster? He and Laporta aren't even on the same page now, let alone trying to manage a transfer window. There are actual, real coaches out there - you don't always need to go for an ex-player.
