Yeah, there’s levels to these things. In the olden days I’d be hoping we’d be able to challenge for the tittle, now it’s just the hope that my soul isn’t ripped from my body on a weekly basis.

You would think so, but the messaging seems to be that he has carte blanche for at least three seasons.

That’s always the case until it’s not though. There will 100% be a tipping point, it’s just a question of how bad things need to get and for how long.

Absolutely. But in recent times just look at how emery was treated compared to Arteta - I feel there is a genuine belief that he needs time and mega money to make us 'competitive' and I don't think it's just at board level either. I'm amazed at the faith that Arteta has managed to buy himself.

I'm not even hopeful of that mate. I believe we'll continue to trot out absolute poverty football and the shitty results they deserve whilst this guy is in charge. It'll be my weekly chore watching us.

Funny thing is I'll end up looking forward to each game as it approaches only to question my sanity when watching.

I’m convinced he told them that the squad needs an overhaul from the start. He’s never wasted a single opportunity to point it out publicly, including that interview where he said he needs 5-6 new first XI players. If that’s the case, and they absolved him of any real responsibility to get more out of what he already has, you can see why he’d be able to explain it away to the owners. He could essentially turn around and say I told you so.

I actually thought it would be a good thing for us, because he’d be able to convince them to spend, but if it’s being used to sign Ramsdale, Tammy and Odegaard…

Haha, I ask myself every week. I’m even planning to take the kids to their first game this season, setting them up for a life of misery.

it's the media as well. he's been immune from criticism thus far, but I think that will turn this season, especially if we spend 100-150m and still end up in midtable

Haha, I ask myself every week. I’m even planning to take the kids to their first game this season, setting them up for a life of misery.

No point in doing that at the moment really, you'd be raising them to watch miserable football AND they'd be supporting a shitty plastic club with a dickhead owner. Depending on where you live I'd take them to a Barnet or Leyton Orient game or some local lower league team.

If things do as badly as last season the crowd will turn on him and if that happens the media will follow.

Arteta on what would represent a successful season

Our goal is to get the best version consistently that is going to bring us closer to winning football matches. That’s what I want from the team. If we do that consistently in every match we’re gonna be in a good place

Now thats a bold statement from our boss, he wants to get closer to winning football matches, a year or two from now, we might even win some. But seriously, he doesn't have an objective for the season? Just vibes and having a good time? Is there no boss at this team, that will tell him whats expected, whats the minimum requirements for the season and so on?

I mean if you actually post the whole quote, you'd see Arteta is simply saying that positive results are the consequence of performing consistently:

He also goes to say this, and definitely sounds a bit deflated about the state of the squad going into the start of the season:

It is always. I think the demands of this football club are so high and the expectations are so high. Whether they are to the level and the quality and the capability that we have is a different matter. We have to cope with that.

He should be deflated about the level of his coaching. The squad can be improved on but the players are blatantly under performing

So far as the season goes = as it stands I don't see us regaining UEFA qualification let alone St Totts Day & top4 is a fantasy.
I don't see the appetite from anyone at the club to simply do what needs to be done in order to achieve any of the above anytime soon, let alone with the opportunity presented this season.
