Seems very likely to be a personality conflict. If you've ever been invited to work on a juicy project but you know one of the other people involved is an intolerable prick, so you turn it down ... having the insight and self respect to do that is one of life's best feelings.

If it's not that, perhaps it's the vibe of the whole England dog and pony show. But my guess would be it's down to one person.

Either way, I'm very happy we've extended him at Arsenal.

Ben White was consistently told by Steven Holland to do useless opposition drills. White was frustrated because he was in superb form and felt he was being left out due to favouritism.

Clrnc Kind of understandable since he doesn't seem to be interested in football outside of work. So for him it might be similar to if I was asked if I wanted to pick up some extra shifts and work for free or if I wanted to do something else. 😆

Aursnes decided that he doesn't want to play for the national team too a few days ago. Some players just want to do other things with their time.

Rohit they should definitely get a better manager, but I can understand saying White doesn't want to be called up since it looks ridiculous that he isn't if he'd wanted to.

If we were still a bit shit, I'd be overjoyed nevertheless by how much togetherness there is at the club these days. It's a far cry from before Arteta.

Jorginho is at a proper club now, after those years at Chelsea the guy is delighted to be at the Arsenal.

Compare our situation to not that long ago, struggling to get our top players to sign contracts. Now we have most of our star players on new contracts. I look back now and in a way you can't just blame those players who ran down their contracts. Our club was a mess on and off pitch. A lot of that was done by the Kroenke's, they basically were at war with Usmanov for control and happy to let the club become a mess if that helped drive him out. As soon as they've taken full control it has been completely different and our resurgence is largely thanks to them backing the squad with money but also backing the staff to and giving them time to sort things out.

Aside from his dodgy history, it would've been such a bloody mess for us, far worse than Chelsea if Usmanov had become our owner. I wonder if David Dein sees the silver lining in having failed to make it happen while he's out trimming the roses at his manor. Wenger's role, and Gazidis's, in all that are also cast in a different light.

Dein played a massive part in turning this club around and deserves huge amount of credit for that. But his behaviour at the end like you said doesn’t cover him in glory. Funnily enough I think he was the one bought the Kroenke’s and Usmanov into the club!

Like you say glad we didn’t have Usmanov, Kroenke’s for all their faults are not in it for a quick buck like a lot of these American owners. They want to build the club and see it as a long term asset so will take a longer term view on things.

Clrnc problem wasn’t Cech. It was the environment Cech was recruited into. If you are an older player and you know that you are going to a serious project pushing for titles, it is very different from guys like Casemiro and Varane retiring at United, picking up one last big check. Completely different environment projected by the club. You can join Rashford who doesn’t press, or you can join Martinelli who presses each game like it’s his last

Claudius Don't disagree but although Cech attitude was professional, he is a Chelsea through and through and a legend. His heart is always thinking of Chelsea.

It wasn't smart by Emery to play him in the Europa, where right after the match he signed back for Chelsea.

Ultimately I don't have fond memories of him and he's probably one of the main reason Wenger flopped so bad in the latter years. Made so many mistakes that directly led to goal and was way past his best. When Leno came in he was like fresh air

Clrnc but it also goes back to why this signing? We didn’t have a grand plan by the end when Wenger was on one year contracts. He was just mixing and matching for the next season. And players also knew that. So why would a Declan Rice come to that situation? We created an environment that selected for the wrong players and was self-reinforcing

At one meeting, Holland did not appear to think White was taking it seriously enough and there was an angry exchange in front of the other players that created a lot of discussion within England’s camp.

I'd wager the England outfit's match day preparation is a joke relative to the standard at Arsenal. White could also have inferred from such treatment that his well-being was an acceptable loss because he was barely going to be played.

Southgate making this public yesterday basically ends his England career while Southgate is in charge. Everyone knows White doesn’t want to be selected but going out and making this public is just them trying to shift the blame from themselves onto the player. Southgate knows exactly what happened so saying he doesn’t know the exact reason is just bullshit and he has got what he wanted which is a media pile on.

White has played under the most demanding coaches like Bielsa & Arteta but he’s not had a problem with a single coach and never any complaints about his attitude.
