That's Chelsea, we are more of a cash cow for Kroenke. They're keeping the Emirates like those properties in London that continually appreciate.

I’m not a big Willock fan, although what he showed with Newcastle was impressive.

So far, Arteta has handled this completely wrong. How on earth has Xhaka been extended? Willock should have been given a chance to show what he could do.

Xhaka and Willock are totally different players, so I don't see how they're linked.

If losing Willock for £25m (hopefully plus add-ons as well) and sign Maddison, I'm okay with it. Even without a buy-back clause. Still disappointing to lose a talented, goal scoring Hale Ender though before he had a proper chance to show what he can do. I hope Arteta has judged Willock's potential correctly.

Xhaka is the managers mainstay and Willock is barely in his plans. That's just how it is.

25m for a surplus player is a good fee. Let's shift nketiah, amn etc. now and turn that money into something worthwhile.

They're both senior midfielders at Arsenal regardless how they play the role. Not extending Xhaka would've been a decent chance to try a midfield with Partey Lokonga and Willock.

Chelsea got more than that for an Ivorian midget centre back who never played a minute in the top flight. We get 20m for an English CM who's goalscoring run last season was only ever matched by the likes of Henry and Aguero

It’s not really about Willock vs Xhaka. The latter is a separate issue, in fact Xhaka is probably the one centre mid Willock could play with. I think unless we switched to a 4-3-3 then there was never really a role for him here. Newcastle intend to play him as one of 2 8s which suits him perfectly. Probably the best move for all involved.

Pretty much everyone reporting it’s £25m, except Ornstein who said it’s ‘in excess’ of £20m. Good deal for Newcastle, adequate for us.

I think this fee is fine tbh. If Willock stayed I would have expected him to be on the fringes and have his value depreciate like AMN.

Well-judged take if the premise is improving results on the pitch this season. Willock's departure would be about what it enabled, and spending up on Maddison would be about quality and cutting out the adaptation period. I like the idea of signing Maddison, we could probably still flip him or use him at the end of his contract, and a move here would spur rather than satisfy his ambitions.

We've seen very poor creativity over the past two seasons, and ESR will need more competition and protection from over-exposure to continue to flourish.

I don't think we're going to see a great 21-22, and will need to be patient. Arteta will probably get sacked, but oddly enough that could be seen as a good reason to support the apparent emphasis of squad management on a rather boring rebuild from the back to the front.

For mind Willock is more suited to a midfield 3 as seen in a 433, and as such his sale indicates we are not likely to be changing from the status quo.

Which not only means we will not be seeing Arteta's end game, but also raises the question as to why is AMN still at the club (other than there may not have been any interest in him)?

I did not imagine when Arteta said he would be ruthless this summer, that he meant in monetising our HG assets because we couldn't shift the dross to complete the squad purge.

Agreed with this in principle, however 25m for Willock doesn't get us Maddison on its own, although there is talk of another 20m for Nketiah to BHA.

What I am more afraid of is that we then spend the funds raised on a double signing for Berge and Ramsdale.

It is 25m inclusive of add ons as reported everywhere and also Newcastle Chronicle. Mike Ashley is skint as fuck and we have bowed to his demands late on in the market desperately to raise funds for new players. Hopefully the add ons hit unlike the Ox deal, although 5m isn't much this time round

Very confident we will get probably Maddison or another AM in after this. Almost certain to happen

Imagine saying at the start of the summer that we'd sign Ben White and James Maddison. One is not the same as the other in terms of stature and achievement, but they are both Premier League-ready, huge, young English talents.

It just goes to show how important the timeline is for these things and also good communication with the fans in order to manage potential for hysteria and control the narrative that is often directed by the media.

If we add Onana late on to that list - and I'm still hoping that we've been planning to sign him at the end of the window because he can't train until September anyway - then I would say that alone would be a 8.5/10 summer. Tavares and Lokonga are an unknown at this point so I'm not really able to judge, but they certainly look good cover at the very least.

There's a thread from the beginning of the summer where virtually everyone said they wanted to fix CM above all else. We spend 120m on two players in positions where almost everyone thought they were some of the least of our worries. Can we stop pretending as if people critical of this window are just hysterical idiots who the club only let down in terms of communication?

If we had been told at the start of the window we were signing those 2 but not a CM, right back, striker, etc and that we'd be holding onto almost everyone from last season that most people would have been pretty disappointed. And we haven't even signed Maddison, that may or may not happen.

Signing Maddison is still a big if, Clrnc was talking as if it's a done deal and was still blase about it. I'm just pointing out it would have been considered a 10/10 signing 3 months ago.
