I like Willock but I'm honestly not sure why there's a mass re-evaluation of him after a good couple of months at Newcastle. I don't think it changes the fact that he still wouldn't (and shouldn't) start for us and as much as it'd be great to have him on the bench, his value is only likely to depreciate in that scenario, which doesn't make sense if he's probably (in my opinion) never going to be good enough for a side that wants to be top 4.

I know it's not directly comparable but I remember there were a lot of people whose were up in arms about Bielik getting sold to Derby, adamant that we'd regret it. I think we all get a bit invested in our young talent but if we're critical of the club trying to shift players when they've past their value peak, then I think it's worth being open to this sale.

I'm not keen on Xhaka but I really don't see that being the case. We've brought in Lokonga as a long-term solution so even if he's not ready this year or next, you'd expect him to come through in 3-4 years. Plus, I'd be surprised (whilst preparing to be wrong) if we don't sign another midfielder if we're selling Willock.

None of us know what Lokonga is going to be like longterm. Seems a big jump to assume he'll become a nailed on first team player. He's a good gamble but thats all. I don't think we'll sign a proper midfielder this summer. Xhaka didn't sign a new contract to be 3rd choice.

Exclusive: Newcastle have agreed a fee with Arsenal to sign Joe Willock on a permanent basis. Personal terms still need to be finalised so deal not yet done. Price would be in excess of £20m for the 21y England youth midfielder

Awful deal because that value was only going to appreciate and double within 1/1.5 seasons. Having said that, I don't think this transfer team knows how to generate 20 million worth of sales any way else, at least without selling an essential XI player. In this particular window anyway, so I guess long-term acumen goes out the window.

20m pounds + add ons. People were expecting 35m for him 😆 After a superb loan we are selling him for lesser than Chelsea is selling random Guehi to Palace for, or for that matter many other examples.

Anyway, FWIW I am always of the opinion we should sell him while his stock his high because many parts of his game is underdeveloped, as long as we put in a buyback clause. We desperately need to upgrade the squad badly in CM, AM, CF, RB. Real bad. Take anything we can for fringe players, and buy more first teamers.

Appointing Arteta is one of the worst things Arsenal has ever done. Jesus fucking christ. What a fucking asshole. We sell Willock and extend with Xhaka who not only is 29 and unsellable, but also has two years left already. We deserve to be exactly where we are. Useless fucking wanker.
