Wengers last squad didn't have that many duds. Too many players ageing out though. He never got the backing he deserved because the Kroenkes were being petty about not having 100% ownership.

Also it didn't feel like last few years Wenger was in charge of recruitment. I remember when we signed Welbeck, Wenger didn't make a public comment for a good couple of weeks. Gazidis was the little prick was desperate to undermine him whenever he could.

Hell even if Wenger admitted this I would never believe he sanctioned the signing of Lacazette. Wenger had plenty of faults but his eye for a player was second to none, he had watched Laca from a young age and never shown the slightest bit of interest.

Xhaka - £30m
Lacazette - £45m
Lucas Perez - £17m

Mkhitaryan bought in on huge wages.

It's not that he wasn't backed, it's that the money wasn't spent on the right players. And I haven't mentioned the famous summer of 2015 when, apparently, he was completely unable to find a single outfield player to improve a squad that had finished third.

Look, Wenger - at his peak - was a genius. I've watched, and loved the film about him, but I think we all need to remember that a large part of the mess Mikel Arteta has spent two years cleaning up was created by Le Boss.

I don't doubt StatDNA helped guide the journey to Xhaka, but if Arsène didn't want him, he had a funny way of showing it, Xhaka featured in 70 of 76 Premier League games for him.

And, actually, we should all be giving Arteta some credit really because it's only under him that Xhaka has really delivered a consistently good level of football. If he'd been here for the duration of Xhaka's time, it's possible the Swiss might enjoy a slightly better reputation with Arsenal fans.

You know Wenger. You spend that amount of money and with that kind of options in midfield those days You absolutely have to play him.

He was too blindly loyal to his players. When Ozil and Alexis was severely off form they still started every match those days

I agree with RtC, I've seen Xhaka play better under Arteta than under Wenger.

Mind you, under Wenger he was more of a 4/10 and now he's closer to a 6/10 - albeit with more peaks.

If City or Liverpool had placed their trust in him I'd see your point, but considering our placements during the periods where these managers have placed their trust in him I'm not sure I see your point. I think everyone agrees that Xhaka is good enough for teams in those positions.

The Cagigao hype was hilarious in hindsight. The guy found a handful of decent players over the years, probably with the help of a whole team and then milked it for all it’s worth and people fell for it. Fair play to him.

The profile of players we started to sign under gazidis tells the story that Wenger was no longer at the wheel. Whether you rate the signings or not, they were definitely not Wenger players.

Even Aubameyang was clearly not a Wenger type player.

And yet no one in world football was willing to offer us more than €15m for him. I think maybe how people in football rate him may be overblown.

It’s also no coincidence that since we signed him we haven’t made CL.

Xhaka is not good enough, simples. He played alright yesterday but he will always let you down, you know it, I know it, he will always be a liability no matter what.
