Huh, so you'd rather him succeed than be right about it being a shocking transfer? Glad you're finally coming around to the idea that it's possible to rather want things to go well than to be right. 🙂

I didn’t say it’s a universal rule, I’m above the prettiness that plagues the rest of you.

True, I've been told many a time that I am plagued with prettiness.

Being above prettiness is the most poetic way to call yourself ugly I've heard yet

This one is confirmed by most. We will get a glimpse in the League Cup soon. Don't think he is coming here to displace Leno immediately.

If you think Ødegaard is a universally frowned upon signing like Ramsdale you haven't paid attention. And if you don't think so and still make the comparison with Ødegaard then you've missed Clrnc's point.

I honestly could care less what the consensus is about anything on Twitter.

I kind of think Clrnc was talking about the consensus in general where you don’t need to add the "on Twitter" part.

Unfortunately this is another signing we will be lamenting in a year or 2.

What a horrendous signing - what the fuck is our staff doing

In all honesty, I don't want the club to listen to the fans. Not saying there are no intelligent, informed voices but the vast majority of football fans are idiots.

Looks like a disastrous signing.

Has been the starting goalie for clubs who got relegated in the last two seasons. Not hoping for a hat trick.

Yes he has, but he's been their stand out performer too.

If we're honest, he's coming as our no.1 - no way we are shelling this cash and effort for a backup. Let's see how it goes.

my criticisms of this ramsdale deal have always been about the spend moreso than about the quality of player. in saying that his reputation isn't sparkling, and I've completely lost faith in the judgement of the people running the club, so my outlook on this isn't too positive

Ramsdale's an Arsenal fan isn't he? going to have to back the boy here. The chosen one.

He's had plenty of practice facing shots in the EPL. His Youtube comps look decent - I like his body shape on 1v1's. And he's young, so plenty of improvement left hopefully. Good luck to him.

“Being a West Brom fan I watched him for a long, long time when he was there. The way he plays, the speed he plays at and being able to kick off both feet, I know his game inside and out.

Shocking shocking buy. Won't even be able to take the #1 spot from Leno by the end of this season. Wasted 25M.

Every mistake he makes the fans will be on his back. Hope he is prepared for the abuse.

I hope he's our best gk since Mad Jens. The more I read and watch about him, the more I want him to succeed. Some of the reactions online are disgusting. Poor guy. I'm unimpressed but I sure as hell hope he does well and proves us all wrong.

One thing is clear from both of his previous clubs, they love the guy. The reaction from the Sheffield fans is overwhelming, they're mad he's leaving and for the price. There must be something there to be said

Hope he's ready to play this weekend. Odegaard too.

Genuinely hope an injury prevents this from happening. Fucking hate the clowns that run this club.

could just be saltiness from him leaving, but stalking their fan forum reinforces the mixed bag opinion ramsdale seems to garner. he is young for GK though, so hopefully he matures. I don't want to see an arc where we force him to play out from the back and he makes tons of errors and turns into a pariah with a cratered market value

This is inevitable.

Reading that thread with a sinking heart.

That thread actually makes me less annoyed by this signing. Character is going to be to the main factor in Ramsdale's fortunes at Arsenal. He clearly has talent, hopefully there is some latent ball playing potential he hasn't been able to showcase to date.

The plan was to get a homegrown keeper and we've done just that. Can definitely question the plan, but they seem to have executed at least.

Clearly has talent. Think our defence would benefit from a keeper who has more bravery than Leno

Gotta work on those parries.

he's a keeper who does not exude confidence which makes him look worse than he is. Leno is something similar.

with the signings we've already made and the sales we didn't make, adding another underwhelming addition isn't the end of the world. this whole windows is a disappointment, but like with the others, i hope he kicks ass.

Jury's out, if he makes it it will be seen as a great and financially prudent signing.

Trying to be positive about this. His recent struggles could be down to age. Very few young keepers that are mature. Martinez looked out of his depth at 23 too. Generally, English keepers don't develop as much as their hype suggests but hope we have found a long term solution to an important position.

I think that's the best we can hope for Rohit. Like everyone else, I find this signing to be a depressing indictment of our recruitment strategy but worst case scenario is that we end up selling him in a few years for something similar to what we paid and we bring in a better 'keeper.

Question for the group - is this guy worse than peak Almunia? My read would be that he's slightly worse albeit younger with time to improve, so that's another way we can kinda put a positive slant on it (given we were still able to reach the top four with Almunia!).

Look at his highlights - obvious talent. Every keeper has a wobbly spell at one stage or another.

I'm not sure it's about a wobbly spell, at least not for me. It's more about general wobbliness in his overall game.

If you want to be positive about that then that's the hope, that he's got great underlying attributes but is just shaky due to confidence and age - not sure how that will be remedied in a significantly more pressured environment.

Leno is much better than this guy. Crazyness.

Lets see how he does...

Feel bad for him too - probably the first time he's gone into a club where the fans don't want him. Tough crowd.

Good performances will get them on side but if he's back-up to Leno, you send he's not going to get loads of opportunities this season unless Leno is horrendous.

It has happened before and Ramsdale has experience too. Match experience and the experience of pressure, that comes along with being in relegation battling teams.

At no point between the crazy Leage Cup games - 7-5 vs Reading in 2012 and 5-5 against Liverpool in 2020, both which featured Emi Martinez, 8 years apart, did I ever think he could become arguably the best keeper in the League. He always looked shaky to me with not so great body language.

I think the coach matters with the goalkeeping position more so than any other position. Right now we have zero trust in the staff and their eye for talent but I really hope they are right on this one. We are paying top money.

So where does this put him in the most expensive goal keepers of all time list?
