Regardless of the (all too common around here) mocking laughter about the Community Shield, Arteta still won an FA Cup within 6 months of becoming a football manager. It's pretty bloody extraordinary when you think about.

Di Matteo took over a team that had finished 2nd in the league the season before he turned up, and won the league the season before that.

Not one that was losing to trash like Bate and Frankfurt and conceding 20-30 shots against Watford and Fulham.

I find it hard to believe there are too many other forums where you’d find fans having to defend their own clubs achievements because most of the forum would rather call the guy who helped win them a cancer, a cunt or a fraud than acknowledge anything good he’s done.

The reason I made the comparison is because DiMatteo took over after Chelsea players had downed tools same as our lads had done under Emery, and he enjoyed a new manager bounce with his wins/results. Their CL and FA Cup victories obviously didn’t come because he was some sort of managerial genius. He was lucky.

I believe it’s a similar situation with Arteta and the FA Cup/Community shield.

"He" couldn't care less what happens with other fans, I'm talking about the way this place has changed in general not about the Community Shield.

It has become okay to be disrespectfuflly dismissive of another person's opinion just because there is an overwhleming consensus on the board. And you, Quincy, are very quick to do that, in my opinion.

And it's the same guys that get it (and I don't mean myself so don't take this as some sort of plea. It is not.), it's not funny or smart. It just comes across as thinking you (not aimed at any one person) can get away with being a dick because you know with this or that poster no one is going to call you out on it because you have the weight of numbers on your side.

Let these guys have their damn opinions, and pay them the respect of addressing their argument instead of just mocking or attacking them.

It really is. The amount of celebration and how bright the outlook looked for us at that time says it all. People were willing to give him time after that, even long after that. That favour has been long passed though.

Flobs had a point too, what Di Matteo did was even more impressive and he has since proved to be a flop. Point is anyone can win a cup fortuitously through all out defending and counter attack.
