Tottenham have finished ahead of us in each of the past 6 seasons. They're better than us and have a much better coach. We closed the gap last season and it's make or break for Arteta and Edu next season.
Spurs haven't won a trophy since 2008, no need to get too excited. They're at their ceiling scraping into the Champions League at our expense.
I'm not blowing Tottenham's point horn here. Just pointing out the fact that for me, they were always the favourites to land the spot once it became clear it was a head-to-head between the two of us. They have recent history on their side, and I'd have taken Conte in a heartbeat back when he was available.
Nevertheless, you are in right in that this is their ceiling whilst we are trending upwards. Our summer incomings will largely dictate where we end up next season. If we can pull a top striker and central midfielder out the bag, then I'll bank on us landing top 4 next season.
What I believe in more than anything is if you commit to a course of action, then you need to see it all the way through. I'm not hell bent on Arteta, but we've allocated significant resources to him, he's been allowed to revamp the whole squad and should now be given ample rope to either win or hang himself. I'm all for giving him next season.
