I have to agree with jones, the policing of how other people react to results and how they view what's going on at the club is getting tiring. You're the one who said it kills your vibe when you come on here and see all the negativity, it kills my vibe when you have a dig at the "Arteta-outs" in every other fucking post. It kills my vibe when you lump everyone who doesn't think the manager is the right man together. And it kills my vibe when you just assume the motivation behind people's posts and ridicule them without having a fucking clue if you're actually right or not. I get that there's a history here and that "both sides" (fucking ridiculous, we're all Arsenal fans) have said things that have led to an escalation of smug sarcasm, but I'll be honest, I've noticed it with you more than anyone else recently, you're the one who mentions "the pessimists", "Arteta-outs", etc. whenever you post. It's always "they". And when you do that, I can't help but feel spoken to, so I'm going to respond in kind this time. But I don't want to talk about "them" or the "Arteta-ins", so unlike jones I am having a go at you specifically. And I apologise for that, it's not meant to be personal, it's just the way I prefer to do things when something annoys me. And it's something that has bothered me for a while now, since I usually really enjoy reading your posts and I honestly don't get why you feel the need for all the little smug digs at some barely defined group of "others", just because they feel negatively about the manager and/or the club's direction.
The corner I'm in is described above, but I'll take this criticism on board. I will admit I've handed out a few extra sideswipes yesterday, but I also find the atmosphere around certain things extreme.
Take Arteta's contract extension as an example. We knew it was coming, and we all know he might never deliver a major trophy to Arsenal—especially seeing as there's a mountain to climb in all areas to achieve that—but when we've talked about alternatives, it's been the likes of ten Hag (unproven in this league), Pochettino (managed a contender and achieved nothing), Rangnick (failing at United), Conte (ego as big as his hair, moans like a thoroughbred and is and about to bail on Spurs).
And yet still there's immediately a thread of responses with people tearing out their hair and acting like their firstborn child's been kidnapped … ?
The task of finding a "Klopp level" Premier League manager is pretty challenging. Under Arteta's leadership we manifestly have not collapsed as far or as badly as was relentlessly predicted earlier in the season. The things that were cited as irretrievable disasters have not been. KSE made the conditions of Arteta's continued employment fairly clear, so I was resigned to his extension even when we were doing worse. My hope now is that we qualify for the Champions League and our owners start to demand more and bigger things with equal consistency.
I for one have appreciated the straight lines and direction of "the project" over the past two seasons, despite its American rhetorics and the overall conversion of football into a corporate vehicle.
