I would rather have someone like Bissouma for what it's worth, but it seems that we're hellbent on replacing Xhaka rather than replacing his role. Can't go wrong with Neves with that in mind. He's twice the player. That might not say much in itself, but it's definitely a strong upgrade for a key position.

I think it would make it more logical to keep Willock next season too and throw him into the mix. He can play next to both Neves and Partey as well as in a more advanced role.

i also think the idea is to relieve partey of major ball retention/circulation duties as well, and get a steady-eddy like neves to take over metronomic duties. parteys passing is adventurous and occasionally brilliant, but he's also prone to misplacing 5 yarders in dangerous areas of the pitch. bissouma is similar to partey in that he wins the ball and looks to burst or play the ball forward, rather than being a deep lying string puller. if neves wasn't so athletically challenged he would be a more enticing option

Bissouma, Partey and Willock sounds like a great set of midfielders TBH. Even if Elneny was the 4th man I could live with that till next summer given our lack of European football.

Bissouma Partey and Willock is a bit lacking in terms of creativity but it's not that bad. Wouldn't want that midfield behind Auba but with a CF with better linkup it would probably work

I don't want a 3 man midfield like that anyway. Partey and Bissouma behind Saka, ESR and Pepe would be ideal. If Bissouma replaces Xhaka, then Willock replaces Ceballos. Ideally AMN or Douzi replaces Elneny but they both seems to be on the Mikels "I'm not talking to you" list so not much hope there.

Willock, Partey and Bissouma sounds like lower midtable stuff, absolute nightmare. A turnover machine that will get us nowhere.

Yeah, I understand the desire for more physicality and athleticism but it can't come at the cost of basic footballing ability. We are a really poor passing side subjected to the press or not. We will suffer with that midfield. I also don't think we are as physically dominated as we are made out to be.

Yeah, the question is what’s our plan B after losing out on Buendia who we’ve courted and chased after for over a year? I don’t want to think about it because it infuriates me that we can’t even seem to snag our number one target for whatever reason. And he was the lowest of low hanging fruits. The most obvious of the obviously needed, especially knowing we are likely not retaining Odegaard. Anyway, the Willock Bissouma Partey fantasy is going to have us looking clueless against ball playing sides. As it stands we have no player who can unlock a defence through the midfield consistently. That’s a huge problem. It’s not just about athleticism. I’d hate to watch a team like that- We aren’t Tottenham.

Such as? I think you make plans based on what you know you have. Odegaard is up in the air. Which of Bissouma Partey or Willock is going to be able to open up a low block with incisive passing? Or perhaps you’re saying Buendia was never an option or a plan A?

Qs, Bissouma is similar to Partey in the sense that he operates best in the middle to defensive third. And Willock is an engine room type player- can carry the ball, but no vision for through passing, technique for quick short combo passing, or tempo control. These aren’t players who will improve the attractiveness or attacking effectiveness of Artetabol

Artetaball doesn't use 3 CMs like that anyway. Partey plus Bissouma with ESR, Saka and Pepe ahead of them would be excellent.

If we are to be a serious club, then ESR is a second option not a first. He will only come in at this stage in his career to give rest to the first option or to give us another attacking facilitator. But, titiswatitis.

Willock, Partey and Bissouma is an awful midfield. You'd have to be mental to wish list that kind of stuff.

It even bothers me that Saka is a nailed on starter at this stage of his development.

Ideally Pepe would be consistent (both within and between games) and we'd have another 25-27 year old wide player with technical ability and goal threat.
