If England couldn't win this tournament when every single factor that could have given them an advanatage was granted to them, then I'm not sure adding in the rest of the non-European nations for a mid-season tournament in Qatar is going to help. One thing about Harry, as good as his passing is and diving effectiveness in PL, he really is bang average against any half decent defence in higher level football. So slow and cumbersome, very ineffective.

where did this idea that shitty international football is a higher level come from? is it from way back in the day when the best players weren't necessarily concentrated in a few european leagues and brazil would show up to a tournament with players that only brazilians saw play club football and style on them?

Exactly, of course England aren't favorites. That doesn’t mean they can't win.

If Southgate is in charge the talent in this generation means nothing because about 1 out of 6 of them will actually play at any given time, with preference given to the likes of Trippier, Rice and Phillips and other grafters.

trippier is a la liga winner who can cross the hell out of a ball and obviously can't be too bad defensively if don diego played him.

and the only problem with playing grafters like rice and phillips is that he didn't play with attacking intent in front of them. water carriers + extremely negative tactics is a bad combo. if those 2 were constantly slotting in for fullbacks who are way up the pitch they wouldn't be getting slated for being who they are.

anyway bellingham has to start in the world cup if his progression keeps up. that's the kind of midfielder any country would love to have.

We've also got to recognise that winning a knock out tournament run every couple of years is about luck as well, at least in the latter stages. The final could have very easily been Spain vs Denmark.

I was thinking that when watching the final. England has a huge opportunity to win a major trophy in the next 4-8 years. It's a shame for them that others like France are also incredibly rich with talent now too. I can't remember a time where a few national teams had depth and talent in every single position within a team like this. It's great for competition.

Yeah we’ll be a threat for the next decade given the talent pool. As said earlier, tournament footy requires a fair bit of fortune in addition to having a talented squad.

Italy also reached semi-final in 90 and final in 94 and still took them another 12 years with another generation before they finally won it.

Dunno whether I'm more shocked at the fact that that happened, that I didn't even know there was a channel called GB News, or that an Aussie knows of it when I'd never even heard of it until this post.

Most definitely Caps. Every squad will have its shortcomings but England’s talent pool and pipeline for the future in particular is as good as or better than anyones
