It's such a shame for Saka. Hopefully he can recover. Ronaldo missed one in the shoot-out against Greece in the 2004 Euro final when Portugal's hosted the tournament, if memory serves, and he seemed to recover alright.
It's idiotic Saka was chosen as the 5th penalty taker, though. Even if he was begging for it. Idiotic. The more senior players that didn't put their hands up should be ashamed of themselves. And Southgate... these moments define you, and of course he made a bad call, because he's a loser, that's what he does - he was a loser as a player, as a club manager, and he is as England manager. He's just a rank average coach, elvated by way too many as something more.
I'm sort of sad for the country that they didn't win, and definitely for a lot of the people I know, but I am glad that Kane and company aren't being lauded as these superstar players and Southgate as a great manager. England are a very average team, with mostly decent to good, and certainly no great, players. The reason they got to the final is mostly because they had a ludicrously easy path and everything stacked in their favour, but also because football is a fucking mess. I don't think this can be overstated. It's a sad, sad situation. There are no great players, no great teams. I can't beleive the state it's in. By all accounts, this tournament was more entertaining, probably largely as a result of a more even playing field, but where are the great players?
