It feels like this thread might become active again in three weeks when we are 0 from 3. Slightly empty rumours about Conte surfacing. I don't know much about him. Does he have a track record of working with youngsters, because that's how our recruitment has been set up (which I think is good).

If Arteta goes (and I think that's still a fairly big if sadly) I would prefer someone with:
a. actual coaching experience
b. a track record in bringing younger players through
c. an attacking philosophy that isn't too rigid, and is direct rather than tippy tappy.

Don't know who that is, but I'm tending towards Klaus's love of Graham Potter.

I still think this squad needs 2 more transfer windows with someone other than Edu and Arteta in charge as well.

Edit: you know what - I'd see if Wenger wanted to come back for a year while we get someone to conduct a proper search. But therein also lies the problem - who at the club is competent to conduct that search? Maybe we need Wenger to be DoF as well. For fuck's sake.

Final thought - it would be funny if we beat Chelsea. Funny in a weird way, because you just know we would lose to City and not win again until October.

David Dein brought Kroenke to the club. Everything thats happening now is his fault.

Get in Overmars and Ten Hag.

Conte is by far the best candidate out there, but he is very short term, strictly a back three coach, and clashes with everyone everywhere.

Players like AMN, Tierney, White, Partey etc would be a dream for Conte. He would probably also want a proper striker like Vlahovic or DCL.

No, that would be PHW.

PHW brought him into the BoD after initially saying 'we don't want his type' and sacking DD & also ousting DDs biggest supporter in Lady Nina. He then engineered to give KSE the keys to the kingdom a year later when Danny Fizsman was dying and his family didn't want his shares. As well he also made sure Usmanov couldn't get any shares despite him offering a higher price, as they had put a 12 month freeze on any share sale and had a stipulation that any subsequent sale had to first be offered to other board members before any sale to another shareholder. IIRC it was during that 12 month share sale freeze that Usmanov made his offer to underwrite a 500m share float for funds to rebuild the team.

It was Dein who brought Kroenke about first, and after he had bought so many shares the board had little choice but to back him over the straight-up mafioso who (again backed by Dein) not only attempted a takeover bid but wanted to take dividends out of the club.

Gotta hand it to Dein - he made over a hundred million all in all from buying Arsenal shares at a low point, inventing the Premier League, and then profiting off the foreign ownership situation that arose.

Exactly Klaus. Dein and Kroenke were extremely sneaky about getting those shares, the rest of the board were completely blindsided, eventually Kroenke had enough power that there was nothing else they could do but allow him on the board.

Dein didn't give a fuck about Arsenal beyond how rich it could make him and after he left his shitbag son continued to fuck us over for years too.

And don't forget he fought to make the PL even less equitable when it started. English football would have ended up like Spanish if he'd had his way.

I didn't think KSE became the largest shareholder until the purchase of Fiszman's shares, and then he got the majority when he bought Lady Nina's and PHWs - all of which was set up by PHW?

Likewise Usmanov proposed share dividends to make the BoD / shareholders accountable so as to counter PHWs statement that the BoD / shareholders did not get dividends on their shares and so did not put any of their own money into the club.

How so? IIRC KSE was invited to sit on the BoD before they had reached the 30% threshold that they didn't achieve until PHW arranged the subsequent take over, after which Usmanov / Red & White Holdings did reach the 30% but never got onto the BoD?

I think it was Fizsmann who did most of the leaning on other shareholders, which would make sense as he was the largest old-school holder at the time.

I know Dein acquired some shares for Kroenke from Bracewll Smith unbeknownst to the rest of the board and I think he even bought some from the board members through some sort of front. And of course he had a sizeable share he cashed in on. I'd have to read Arsenal Making of a Modern Superclub again to get the details, its been a while. Either way its was all done in secret and as soon as they board found out they sacked Dein and had him thrown out of the club, that much I can remember vividly.

PHW certainly had very few shares, famously having sold them to David Dein, so I'm always surprised when people think he had so much power.

IIRC Fizsmann was our largest individual shareholder at the time, after initially being brought into the club by Dein who sold him some of his shares, and Fizsmann then provided a loan to the club that enabled Wright to get a new deal and also pay for the transfers of DB10 and David Platt.

Didn't know about that - only heard KSE got the Bracewell-Smith shares when he also got Fizsmanns shares which was well after Dein had sold the last of his shares to Red & White (Usmanov).
The problem I have with this is the BoD were constantly trading/selling shares amongst themselves up to the point after Dein and Bracewell-Smith had been forced out and KSE was brought into the BoD by PHW, at which point they stopped any further trading for 12 months and also stipulated that any further trading had to be made available to current BoD members before selling to anyone who was not a member of the BoD. The question is had Bracewell-Smith already been kicked off the BoD, and even if she was removed after the restrictions on trading, did they still apply to her as a result of her expulsion?

IIRC PHW only sold a minority shareholding to Dein initially, but then Dein sold a similar sized portion to Fizsmann. Both Dein and Fizsmann increased their shareholdings by purchases from other BoD shareholders including PHW, and each were our largest individual shareholder at some points prior to the KSE buy out when they became our largest shareholder and then majority shareholder.
