I think the Kroenkes are done. The problem with trust is that it’s hard to build and easy to destroy. Kroenke and the other billionaire owners went all in on a movie that has turned them into villains.
There are two main things here for me. First is misunderstanding their role as custodians of a club. They assumed that by buying the club they could make decisions without consulting all stakeholders, but will now realise that the people in the stands and living rooms are not customers. They’re fans. Second, is the brazenness of their effort. The idea that they could set up a closed super league and still hold the Premier League hostage for Tv monies still grates. It feels devoid of morality. Just do a clean break, set up your rival association, but don’t abuse people.
I don't know, I don't thing they misunderstood anything. They just seemed to be really incompetent (collectively), as the backlash was so predictable that you would have assumed they had a plan to weather the storm, and face the legal and PR battles that would ensue. To get into this without having given a thought to it smacks of sheer incompetence, and tells you yet again how poorly managed and a shambles we are as an organization. They will do it again tomorrow if they could sort out the details, and would not give a rat's ass about the fans, so don't think there is any misunderstanding in their role.
Would have been great if Wenger was still here and still (relatively) in his pomp, he would have spoken up against it - that would have created a serious rift.
