Absolutely brutal game, compounded by more brain dead errors.
Arteta needs to show bravery, and get rid of players like Xhaka, who can’t even be relied upon to deliver the basics. Forget the goal which was unreal, but he twice flicked the ball backwards to the edge of the area, where both times Burnley players picked up the ball. There was also a ridiculous sequence where late on we were camped around Burnley’s box, he received the ball, and with numerous options, all he could do was turn back and pass it to Luiz. Luiz was pressed instantly, and shifted the ball to his other foot, and made a cross field pass to an attacker on the opposite side of the box.
The fact our CB could have the vision and pass that our midfielder doesn’t, says everything.
The penalty sequences in this game need to be investigated. Pieters first penalty incident, was not only a penalty but should have resulted in him being sent off. Pepe was 100% past him, if he didn’t use his hand. An absolute scandal.
We can’t continue to brush these incidents under the rug. Every team needs breaks to go their way, many of our rivals have had them this season. We literally get fuck all, and it needs to said loud and clear. It has fucked us over big time today.
Arteta needs to be true to what he wants to accomplish, and get rid of players who can’t even shift their balance and pass forward.
