Why would you need to say that were still better, it's pretty obvious to anyone.

Edit: I didn't mean the quotation marks as a direct quotation, but that's the gist of USArsenal's post. Its kind of (sorry goon) like when goon says he doesnt understand why people are praising Ancelotti when we finished in front of them. We had the better starting point. Just like we did when Villa were almost relegated and we finished 8th so using the fact that they finished behind us as an argument isn't on in my opinion.

I'd love to know who scouted Malen, Bennacer and Jeff for us. Whoever it was did a better job at bringing in talents than we've seen in a decade. Shame none of them ever got a fair crack at Arsenal.

That would be Andreas Jonker.

I figured it was Jonker too but I've never seen it confirmed. He did a lot of good work in a short time and you feel some of it went wasted after he left. If he'd still been around I think he might have been able to convince Emery to take a punt on Bennacer when we had the buyback clause.

Jonker was the Head of academy but that doesn't mean he has to be the one to scout those guys. Everyone in Germany and Holland considers him a joke, maybe he brought a decent scout with him or maybe Bradys departure allowed some capable guy a bigger say.

I know he had a bad reputation when he arrived but by all accounts he did a good job for us. The academy was going straight to hell before that. A lot of the guys we see breaking through now emerged after he was appointed. It could be partly coincidence but I don't think that's the whole story. We changed how and where we looked for talents, we changed coaching methods all the way down through the ages, we got modern people in.

Youth football is just littered with coaches and staff that aren't nearly good enough for the first team. (manU used to pay £50 per day for the youth physios). It was where the underachievers and inexperienced physios with big egos went.

It could well be he's great at youth level and not nearly good enough for seniors. Really can't stress the general incompetence of youth level staff compaired to senior staff. It's like compairing a regular Renault mechanic down the road to a top F1 mechanic.

Very likely to be this case with Jonker. Just like Carlos Quieroz.

I think these kids are talented enough to have broken through anyway to be honest, and most of them joined straight out of the labour ward.

But yeah, he defo did a lot of modernising after Bardy basically let the whole thing go stale and outdated.

Its looking like Brighton or Crystal Palace would be the most likely destination for Odsonne Edouard.

Celtic are looking for a fee reaching £20 million (including bonuses).

Malen left before Sanllehi joined the club, this was still under Wenger and Gazidis. Wenger was just as bad in his final years, never put the club or its finances ahead of the players and their careers.

The frustrating thing is we have produced better players but failed to extract value. This club is infuriating to support as there is a momentous lack of competence across the board.

Szczesny - £12m
Coquelin - £13m

That's about £90m already and that's before we potentially sell Eddie, AMN, Nelson, Willock this summer.
