Well Arteta has coached under an exceptional manager who managed at the top clubs. The things he may have learnt there will not carry across to the vast majority of teams in world football because you need to have top players and sustained coaching over months to try to deploy these kind of tactics.
You might have an idea how you'd like to play the game but you have to be pragmatic. I'd love to play like Pep but that's not realistic with the team I have for example then you have to find your own way.
Arteta seems to think he can just deploy these types of tactics and they will just work which seems an incredibly naïve approach.
What I mean want getting good from my perception is taking your poor decisions and learning from them. Failing to make subs and being too slow to acknowledge mistakes he's made and correct them. He just doesn't ever seem to do that. Arrogance is part of the top players and managers but it's only acceptable if you deliver performance otherwise it's deluded and a massive character flaw.
His performance isn't down to him being a rookie but if you employ someone with no experience you don't know whether they are rubbish and a fraud or the next big thing. Right now we seem to have the former so my point is appointing mangers with a record and CV of experience and proven performance is going to trump Arteta who may actually not be very good based on what we've seen.
You talk about the worst way to hire a coach is to base or on their records etc. What do you think of hiring someone like Arteta then? Because someone has worked under Pep they should be given a premium managerial job first time? I think that's far worse of an approach to hiring.
Fair points. He tries these tactics because he's obviously seen them work. They're not all that revolutionary either, the whole defend with 5 attack with 5 isn't just a Pep thing, it's also a Klopp approach and many others. Are certain other tweaks too much? Probably, I do think our guys are being asked to do things that fall outside their natural games and his inability to get that balance right is probably why this season has ended up they way it has.
I said when we hired Arteta that none of us could comment on whether it was good or bad, only those that hired him would know from speaking to him and getting to know his ideas as well as speaking with those in the game. If it seemed like a good fit, then yes, I have no issues with that method of hiring someone, even if it represents a gamble. What I can't stand is the lazy approach like United have taken in the past of Tottenham more recently.

Not everything you're too ignorant to know or care about is a hipster pick mate.
I guarantee most people who mention him are ignorant on him too. Why else would you pick someone who's barely interested in being a head coach, as head coach?
