and the thing is, its not just needing a CM and a striker. partey has been consistently injured basically since he arrived. hes important to our team. buying a new CM to replace xhaka is important, but what happens when partey misses 75% of the season next year? new striker, definitely needed, and will help. but what happens when the new striker hits a fallow run of form?
bottom line is, we are not getting the most out of our current players and we arent performing as a team. i think that is rooted in the fact that we play such passive, boring football under arteta. i hate to heap praise on liverpool, but they've gotten performances out of average (or worse) players because they have a cohesive style of football that is focused on attacking and scoring goals. theyve actually score 7 more goals than man city this season.
im just sick of hearing the excuses. man city and liverpool should not be on another level to us. we've spent on par with liverpool and city in the last 2 summers. and where has it gotten us?
i threw this together quickly while waiting for the sixers game to start. i looked at transfers in/out of £5m or more, so i didnt list every single transfer for the last 2.5 years. but i think this should give a good idea. if i missed any big ones, tell me and i will fix it.

this is disgraceful. i can already hear the caveats "our squad was sooo bad, we needed to spend so much!!".....yes. agreed. but the reality is, we are spending near the absolute top of the league. we're not poor. wenger put together a bunch of teams that achieved top 4 and some windows we were making a net profit. yeah yeah yeah i know, the league is different now, more money, blah blah fucking blah.
bottom line is, this isnt good enough. our recruitment strategy of buying young players is probably the right one. but we arent getting enough out of them, and that is because cone man has no fucking idea what hes doing. its not just this run of 3 games. its the last 2 seasons in totality. this isnt good enough. not even fucking close.
