As the new guy, I guess it´s only fair I first post my short opinion on the whole situation we are in right now, as well as the manager.
If I said I really like our current team, I´d be lying. There´s a few of pieces missing and we are far away from the elite as of now. However, there´s a lot of potential there, and very few if any players left that are genuinely unlikable. So if we play our next cards right, and with a bit of luck I think we could really grow.
As for Arteta, I don´t think he´s a cunt nor a fraud. I think he is trying his best. The appointment of him was always going to be a risk. I think the only fact that all the Arteta out/in guys can agree on is that it is blatantly obvious that he is a rookie manager. He is basically learning the job at Arsenal. Also, no matter how his time goes at Arsenal, I think he has a lot more talent as a coach then the Lampards or Oles. I think he could be a really good coach, I´m just not sure as of now if the Arsenal job was too soon for him. I guess we´ll find out. Also, while some fans think that the new youth approach is just a facade to have excuses, I think it´s a genuine change of approach after Arteta saw that the first one was destined to fail. And I hope we keep it up in the summer.
I don´t have a big problem with the january window, of course it´s disappointing we didn´t sign any players but considering the previous summer window I give the board the benefit of the doubt.
As for the outgoings, I don´t agree with all the fuss about it. None of the players contributed anything this season. Hopefully the few that are left also leave in the summer. Although it´s gonna be hard to do such a big overhaul of the squad. So I´m a bit worried about that.
As for Auba, I loved him. He was the last real world class player we had left. But it was time to let him leave. It´s sad the way it happened, but we had no other choice. Also, it´s much better for him to go this way then the Ozil route. I hope he manages to turn things around in Spain. Still, considering the last 18 months, we didn´t lose a lot with his departure. I think it was the best solution (hehe) for everyone involved.
I think that´s enough for now. Long story short, I still have some doubts about our future but like to be optimistic and not to harsh on coaches/players, as I think most of them are trying their best and it´s really not an easy situation they/we are in right now. And just bashing everyone and going through the same cycles with different people is not the way for me.
