Eh the question is who pulls the trigger? Do you trust them to do what's needed at this time? And do you trust them to have a plan in place to replace him? Talk less of a good plan?

It's going to be another rudderless couple of months I expect.

the only thing keeping him in the job is the fact that the young recruits settled in quickly, but you can see them starting to get jaded with our approach as well. couple that with the poor form of pretty much every experienced player at the club, and it fortells a nasty Xmas period. if we pull the trigger it should be in january, to get the new guy bedded in for next season

TBH I'm not sure he would be sacked even if we lost the games v WHU, Wolves and MC between now and the New Year's break, and even the NLD as the first game back. I suspect he is 'safe' until the point we do not regain UEFA qualification.

That said I'd hope that if we did lose those games before the break, that we would see him supported in the market regards signing a CF and CM. At least that way there'd be absolutely no excuses, and we'd have a better squad for the next manager as the signings last summer have been good.

But that’s actually a positive measure of consistency, and if nothing else, I will give him that. Even if we struggled, we typically would beat many of the teams at or below our level. The character of the team hadn’t been truly tested yet.

Then ManU happens. Then Everton happens.

These are games that define your season and your purported progress. We just go ahead and lose them. Throwing away all the good work of the past.

And now you get the distinct feeling it’s all about to hit the fan at Arsenal.

Can’t wait for the Amazon documentary. Actually wonder if that constant lens has influenced some of Arteta’s weirder decisions this season.

Winning those games is a must and as Flobs says the issue is that we didn’t beat Everton (15th) and United (no manager) to continue that trend.

Arteta complaining that we were not able to progress the ball accurately, but it’s nothing new despite having some good passers back there. Odegaard saying we should have kept attacking after going ahead, what exactly did we discuss/address after the last few games?

Seems to be it’s a coaching issue more than anything else. Too much falls on the confidence of the players rather than heavily practiced know how. Look how Liverpool progress the ball, they make it look easy because they know exactly what to do and where their teammates will be.

I've been quite consistent on that to be fair, where I flip flop is whether Arteta will get it right given time. Each time I look for us to build on a base level (e.g. the Watford and Newcaslte wins) with performances of a higher level (Villa, Spurs) we go the other way and go back to square one.

It's not difficult to guess and form your own conclusions. It's 3 different years, 3 pretty different group of players in different form playing the exact same bloody conservative safety first "control" football. Every time we go ahead, we defend. We have never pushed forward to go for 4-5-6 goals. It's a bloody coaching issue.

Illusions about Arteta are very near to being dispelled by this performance, and by getting everything his own way with KSE he's certainly used up a lot of his excuses.

Weirdly though we've got a pretty easy run of fixtures through December ... if anything counts as easy for this team.

Whats really annoying is that when our rivals go through repeated spells like this they actually change their managers. And despite peoples saying "well who could you get mid season" they all seem to manage to get good managers.

That's fair - I think what really soured Arteta to me is that the guy just cannot coach an attack.

And he's a bit of a dick.

Can see us cobbling together a few results during this period. Although the list of our wins above is anything but a metric of consistency considering we were pretty lucky to get a few of them.

Everything has depended on the theory we were bedding in a drastically changed first XI, but with our defence actually looking poor again, Ramsdale exposed, and everything else as dysfunctional as it has been, it ain't looking like the crystallisation is happening.
