Has Arteta Truly Turned it Around?

I think it’s pretty clear Arteta will be given the season to develop the squad, style of play etc. So far, after the disastrous opening 3 games, the response has been an upward trend.

It will also be fascinating to see how this board evolves too - for instance if Arteta does turn things around who will embrace that and who will be left in the corner muttering and grumbling and living in the past, not being able to enjoy things.

Arsenal are becoming fun to watch again, and are getting results with a bunch of young players who are quite likeable. If that continues then I’m quite happy for Arteta to stay. If the last few games turn out to be out of character I’ll happily call for his head. I’m pretty simple like that.

i'll certainly be happy because results matter to me more than style. so even if we never become this great attacking team, as long as we're winning things i'm happy. i could give a shit if the neutrals like us.

Well he's pulled results back in his favour. If we beat Watford at home as expected we'll be back on track to have a 70 point season. Performances have improved too.

The next test I guess is whether or not we can sustain results and continue to improve performances. He has everything in his favour at the moment, his players, confidence is building, fans sentiment is better and we're in a decent position in the table.

we've taken some steps in the right direction, and sometimes all that's missing just that kicker of momentum that 4-5 good results on the bounce provides. there's still this tendency for 20-40 minutes vacuums in games where we look unsure on what the plan is, and teams lay into us. it wasn't just Leicester, it happened against palace and Brighton too. it's also fair to say palace and Brighton are proving a handful for everyone they play. so again, really taking things in 5 game batches to see how we get on. this recent batch has been encouraging

If Watford is a regulation win and Liverpool a dignified loss, we're doing well.

At this point I do not expect to get anything from games v CFC, MC or LFC.
Our 3rd EPL game back is A v MU = that should tell us where we really stand this season in relation to a potential top4 challenge.

Next game of interest will be H v WHU on 15/12 which is the 2nd of 4 games in 9 days.
Our last game before the winter break in A v MC on New Year's Day,
and our first game back on 15/01 is A v TH.

At this point AFCON will be our biggest test as IMO we are short of options if we look to play the Double Pivot.

I'm not onboard with this talk of not expecting anything against the few top teams of the league. Chelsea lost to a shit Juve side, City lost at home vs Palace and got kicked out by West Ham with a full strength team and Liverpool just drew vs Brighton. I don't think expecting us to be in it vs teams who've shown some vulnerabilities themselves should be out of the question.

As gazza points out even with decent results in the last two (!) games we still look disjointed and lost in every game for large spells, not like we've turned a corner and putting in performances like Spurs first half every week. Still I don't see what this talking up of our opposition is supposed to do for us, player for player we're not that far from them imo

Agreed, I don't think anyone in the PL this season is even close to approaching untouchable.

The results against Chelsea and City mean we should be looking to make up for it somewhere down the line. Might not be against Liverpool at Anfield, but loosing 6/6 in those games is not a good look and you don't want it to become a thing.

Yeah, those long spells in which we are pummelled even in our "good" games are baffling and pretty unacceptable.

Can't claim any corner has been turned yet.

Why not? They are all dropping points against teams outside of their bubble. I wouldn't be demanding we beat any of them but we should at least be competitive in some of those games.

Our record against the top 6 has been the best its been in a long time... First two games were terrible though.. Kind of more concerned about the performance than the result in the upcoming big games..

Next step for me is being able to come out of our shell when we have been pinned back for a period, which obviously happens more against the top team. Team having a growing confidence in the defense will help a lot.

Liverpool away has been a bad experience for about a decade now. Just write that one off.

FFS still remember Lacazette missing an absolute sitter to equalise late on there last year.

It's only since Klopp took over that we shit the bed there, before that we had a run at least as long where we barely lost there. Similar story to Old Trafford just need to loosen the mental handbrake and fucking do them.

To be fair before last seasons implosion they were basically untouchable at home for a while, don't they hold the record for like 70 games unbeaten or something?
