The invincibles and the title winners before them rarely smashed a team in goal scoring terms. Job was done in 30 minutes and then everyone was enjoying a day in the sun. The score lines don't bare out the performance.

Yeah I remember them singing "Are you watching Arsenal" while they shredded opponents. It was a much better Chelsea side than Ancelotti's to my mind.

i always felt the 02/03 team blew more teams out than the 03/04 team, which only really started playing champagne football after Christmas. before then it was mainly plucky performances with goals nicked on the counter

Yup, I’ve always said the same. The football in 02/03 was phenomenal at times.

Mourinho was always dull though. Sitting deep and countering will always produce some good football, especially when you have guys like Robben on the wings. Similarly when you have that much talent you’ll tear some teams to shreds through sheer brute force. But he’s not someone who brings out the creativity, attacking patterns or flair in a side.

Early 04/05 and then later on (Everton at home) was the most attractive Arsenal I remember. Unstoppable one-touch football.

Yeah that period where Reyes was unplayable.

I would argue that in terms of attractive football, nothing beats 07/08 till Feb. We matched the big boys even in Europe that year, absolutely outplayed the defending Champions Milan.

They are pretty neutral, at least not as critical of our manager compared to Wenger's latter years. The big match wins often help.

I don’t think so. I think the media just realizes and accepts us for what we are - a formerly good or great team now fizzling into mid table, with some aspirations of getting back into the top 4-8 spots. And they analyze or criticize our results within that lens.

Plus, he does say a lot of the right things. He is very media savvy. Doesn’t give controversial answers, doesn’t attack the refs, or the opposition or the media. Just a regular old mediocre manager of a team playing regular old mediocre football most of the time, and getting one or two big results a season against the likes of Tottenham, and pointing to that as success.
