the football has been largely miserable for 18 months. you seem to feel people have entrenched themselves into 1 way of thinking, when it's largely been in reaction to what we're seeing on the pitch and in the office. 18 months of baseless hopium in the face of what has been objectively poor football is just much of a waste of time. if new evidence presents itself, perspectives shift, or at least they should. it's pretty simple. it's not like we've been secretly great all along and only a sage few were able to decipher it. we've been crap, and pretty much the only foothold has been 'well wait until he gets all the players he wants'. that's really the last and only defense, so let's see what happens now he's got those pieces in place. I hope the guy does well 🙂

Either way neither of them speak to what a persons expectations are.

At worst everyone believing/hoping it's potentially the dawn of a new era is a mug, but so what? It's all a part of the rollercoaster.

Don’t think this team has all the pieces Arteta wants but we’ve edged a lot closer to where he wants us to be. We can finally start to attempt to play the way he wants us to.

Was just going to say much will depend on if we complete the build in Jan, or if we're going to have to change our priorities following Xhaka's injury and a possible departure by Leno. Previously reported targets were CM, CF & possibly WF, whereas current talk is of cover for RB and GK.
As it stands I'm encouraged by what little I've seen from the new signings and cannot fault either the players or management staff. That said The likes of Torreira and Guendouzi also started well before things changed for the worst, and my main complaint about not finishing the job over the summer still remains. As such our recruiting has been much like under AW in that we have done well but we are still short.

Whilst the NLD performance was encouraging, going forward it is still not what Arteta said he wanted to do in terms of dominating possession and field position. As has been pointed out elsewhere we only really looked to play on the front foot until we scored the opening goal, after which we settled into a mid-low block when off the ball and the other 2 goals were scored on the counter, after which we basically shut up shop.
As such we may have a current game plan for those teams that will want to play, but we still struggled against teams that will sit deep and compact.

Jesus even though I thought Arteta & Co should have been replaced at the end of last season, I never got to that point even after wanting AW Out for about a decade.

I've never wanted us to lose a match even when it meant that we might've had to participate in the Conference League if we won. However I assume from their point of view it's not that they'd rather Arteta lose all his matches than win all his matches, but that they think it's better long-term to lose matches now and get him kicked out than stay mediocre for a long time and him barely hanging on.

rather roundabout way of saying they want Arsenal to lose until Mikel is kicked out.

We know the reasons but imagine wanting us to lose. And being miserable when we win because it means Mikel gets another week.

Surely we need the new manager search to start now in right earnest? Could and should have lost this game against Brighton with 2-3 of their best players out. Disgraceful football.

it's the solksjaer zone of uncertainty. despite the little bursts of form he's shown here and there, most manyoo fans know he's not up to it longterm, but he keeps doing just enough to stay in the job and keep just enough of the fans behind him. I feel similarly about arteta.

The answer to the thread title is still 'No' despite the improvement in terms of points gained between the international breaks, which MIO is primarily due to the new back5.
He needs to show further progress when the league resumes, particularly in regards to our transition and play in the opposition half.
