So really there are two actual football people in the building (three if we include mertesacker). Only one of them has any management/administrative experience whatsoever.

Totally. That for me is a bigger issue than anything Arteta has done. When he goes, there is still no structure in place.

It's mad. Getting Rangnick or Overmars in the door seems like the most obvious first move, then boot out Arteta in a few months after they've gotten a look at him and have had some time to sound out replacements. Do it the right way this time. It would be so nice to have some proper procedure at the club again.

I refuse to believe it's this hard for a financial football powerhouse to hire competent people, but then I remember that the hiring of competent people is often being done by other competent people.

And that was a result of previous folly. You absolutely cannot allow a head coach to come in, sack everyone and employ only 'their guys'. The worst part is that we knew that - Gazidis spoke about it many times and then we did it with Emery. It's so bizarre.

It really shouldn't be that hard to be honest. If the people on this forum can list 2-3 people to come in a take charge Josh and Vinai should be able to find someone especially with the network they should have at their disposal.

I wonder if we might go for Edwards who's leaving Liverpool? I never personally bought the hype about the job he's done, but at least he has some pedigree of getting good value deals both in and out.

That was 100% down to Raul in my opinion. Bloke got rid of Sven because he didn't want the clash, Monchi didn't fancy the job presumably because of how he'd have to operate, so he went for Edu who clearly shares some of the same traits.

We need a clear hierarchy. Overmars would be DOF and appoint the manager, etc They would then be answerable to him. Who's Arteta answerable to? Josh and Stan?

Show's up Edu as weak as well. Even if he doesn't have the final say, he should be in everyone's ear telling them how much of a mistake it is to keep Arteta. He has clear and obvious data to back him up.

That's common procedure in football these days though, almost every new coaching appointment brings in their guys from day, and that's even in mainland Europe where head coaches don't have as much say as they do in England. Usually its a mix of a) existing backroom staff staying on, b) head coach brings his conditioning, tactics video analysis etc guy with him and c) DoF bringing in new guys from elsewhere. When Emery came we had a bunch of mouth breathing wastemen stealing a living anyway.

Pure speculation here: Arteta bypassed Edu and has a more direct and stronger connection to the Kroenkes and Vinai. Edu will fall first and that will give Arteta additional time to continue destroying the club.

They usually bring in guys on top of the stalwarts. We literally sacked everyone and the only coaching staff was Emery's.

And you can call them wastemen if you like, but we are paying a heavy price for that decision even now.
