By that logic it's not reasonable to expect better than 8th next season either unless we buy a lot of shiny new players.
Much will depend on how the rest do in the summer.
However we already have the building blocks to see some real progress next season IF we have a team that is fit for purpose.
In terms of the Defence we have improved our xGA and have the =4th best defence in the PL & only 2 GA more than the 2nd best defence.
Despite all the gushing over Kane and Son they only have 5 more goals than us with 1 game in hand.
Likewise I do not expect us to get 3 red cards as seen for Pepe, Xhaka or Leno and I do not expect us to drop points under similar circumstances, nor the subsequent domino effect of that run of games. IMO we dropped at least 6-10+ points from those games and those that followed which would see us above CFC in 4th place, let alone we were still playing 343 until the CFC game.
Lastly I do not expect Partey to miss as many games, and I expect us to be better prepared in terms of cover for injuries.
Yes I expect us to improve next season compared to this. The caveat will be if we balance the team and how much improvement the rest make.
IMO if we want to mitigate improvements made by other contenders then we do need to invest beyond our current financial means with players at Partey's level of quality & capability.
