As I see it, the role of fans are to support and perhaps it's just my perception but it begins to feel like some become invested in those they've characterised as enemies of the club, failing.
Maybe I've got it wrong but that seems quite sad to me.
As long as everyone is really trying their best you can get frustrated but really there are no grounds to insult the individuals in question. With Arteta however you don't get the sense that he really wants what's best for Arsenal if you count Arsenal the club as a combination of the staff, the results, the fans and the players. He's not good enough to deliver the results which is fair because he's most likely trying his best, but his actions with regards to the players whose careers depend on his actions are definitely worth heavy criticism. Like meatwad says there are plenty of fans who will feel aggrieved by his actions towards Saliba, Willock, Pepe/Willian etc, his talk of everyone being accountable while throwing everyone else under the bus is just adding insult to injury.
I guess that's your perception of events though, that there's intent behind his actions, that he's passively destroying their careers intentionally. I'd wager that it's more down to a combo of (a) inexperience and (b) being overstretched in his responsibilities (in terms of the impact of his decision-making rather than press conference sound bites).

There's a difference between abusing someone directly (in grounds and on social media) and going onto small forums and taking the piss out of someone.
Personally I enjoy coming onto here, reading likeminded frustration, offloading a bit myself, then continuing with my day. Arsenal being shit has very little impact on my own happiness and that's partly due to the catharsis that a place like this offers.Ā
I get that some online abuse leads to more visceral match-day negativity, but it's not being caused by someone on here calling Arteta a coneboy.
Totally agree that there's a difference between indirect/direct abuse. But fans talk to each other and I think it fosters a very negative attitude towards the club.
It then becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy; player gets direct abuse for playing like shit, loses confidence, continues playing shit, gets more abuse, declines in sale value etc.
Appreciate that's all slightly speculative thinking but think it's a conversation worth having.
