Has Arteta Truly Turned it Around?

Happy for Tet, making such a big gamble and coming out the other side better for it. Ødegaard is an immense winter window signing just a couple weeks in, and very crucial if the likes of Saka will be sidelined for a bit.

Team has eeked out another outside chance again. They should be coming in with full belief against West Ham and Pool. Lets see what the picture looks like in a fortnight.

I’m at a point now where I have a clear understanding of Arteta ball and I’m enjoying it. The results are slowly coming as well. Very encouraging.

Same Claud. I don't think people here appreciate just how good we've become at managing the defensive transition. People have forgotten just how bad we were at it. What's great is that as time goes on we're becoming more and more ambitious in how we manage that. If we can find a way to do that for 90 mins, while also not losing our shit and gifting the opposition a goal, we'll be golden.

Thats a sympton of modern football aswrll as us. Look at manU with their unlimited funds. They're shit to watch aswell. Theirs not many teams that throw caution to the wind.

Yep, Its been clear as day were improving. Rather than just papering over the cracks.

Not sure I want us to throw caution to the wind to entertain. I want us to play with more freedom and flair. Right now, the way we have been playing, we aren't shit to watch either. Just rigid in what we do. A couple of players could change that, so we'll see.

You watch much football? I don’t catch every prem game, but i see enough of them to know that there aren’t many teams playing decent stuff. Same turgid kick and run bullshit that’s sweeping the league.

Leeds, City and occasionally Villa are the only ones playing anything resembling entertaining football.

I don't watch as much as I used to and when I do, I don't get an impression any different than you. Wenger's idea of football did spoil most of us. I just loved some of the movement and quick interchanges most of his teams showed. Not that I yearn for it. I would love for us to return to winning ways even if we compromise on entertainment. There big positioning space between Wenger's and Mourinho's football where we can sit.

if you go back and watch those years of Wengerball, you can get some sense of why it's so hard to replicate now. For one thing, no matter how we romanticise the old back 4s, defenders nowadays are just so much better. Teams also organise themselves so much better for counterattacks.

Was a comment made at the start of the 2nd half that no team has conceded fewer 2nd half goals than us this season.

I'm not convinced by that. that peak Wenger team was very advanced for its time. I think it would still mash every team in the league today bar city. with the amount of protection attackers have today, guys like Pires would have even more of a field day

There has been a suggestion that Arteta is trying to get our patterns to become 2nd nature before he releases the handbrake in terms of individual flair in the final 3rd.

Was another article that suggested the next step in our evolution of our play is towards more 1-2 touch passing, and we have seen glimpses of this.

IMO improving our tempo in transition to exploit space will enable more flair and off the cuff play.

IMO they go like this:

1) Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea FA Cup Final
2) Arsenal 3-1 Chelsea Dec 2020 Premier League
3) Arsenal 3-2 Benfica, Europa League
4) Arsenal 2-1 Spurs March 2021 Premier League
