Unless we think we can convince him to stay, not sure I see the point... looks a good prospect (although Im not feeling the huge hype most are) but for 6 months? Guess it depends on the options and money we have but would prefer someone w experience if it is just a short term loan..

havent seen much of him, so who knows..

Yeah I think so. We are wasting our time giving minutes to a Real Madrid player. This is the sort of short term thinking that is plaguing the club right now. The idea of this guy taking minutes from young Arsenal players and then going back to Madrid is really annoying, and for what? So we can finish 9th instead of 11th? If he's a back up option fine but I don't think he's coming here for that.

Hm. Depends on the deal. A midfield of Partey, ESR, and Odegaard is interesting, for sure, but would we ever see it? Maybe he'll just be backup for ESR in games like tomorrow's? Player that should be most worried about this is Willock.

Without any possibility to buy, and given our experiences in the past with these kinds of signings, I'm wary.

I'm quite happy with Odegaard taking Willocks minutes, even if it's just for a few months.

Me too. I'm just worried he won't actually play. January midfield loans are weird.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I think Odegaard is fantastic and would love to see him at Arsenal. Exciting but potentially disappointing under these circumstances, though.

Ofc, but what have you really got to lose? It would normally be impossible to secure someone of his ability on loan.

He was quality at Sociedad. Performed against the best. The pace of this League may be a shock also given his style of play but he has class. Impossible to say what Arteta is thinking regarding how best to use his strengths but if Arteta could do that, it could be the difference between Europe and no Europe next season. Top 4 is a stretch but Europa places certainly not out of reach of we can add quality with half the season left.

I feel like people are forgetting that for most of November/December, there was a real dearth of creativity in this squad. ESR has papered over the cracks but that issue is still very much there.

Therefore I find it hard to understand how bringing in a proven, creative player is pointless.

I think we are also afraid to commit big money for him so we are taking a loan then if he adapts well we will negotiate for a deal.

It's obvious Madrid wants to sell him.

Exactly. Prior to Smith Rowe we lacked a single player in the team that could find pockets of space, link the midfield and attack, find a creative pass, or produce a moment of magic. The kid has been excellent, and I know his talent well enough to be sure it's not some sort of fluke, but he is still so young and inexperienced. Relying on him would be madness. Even more so with his injury record. Ødegaard is the perfect type of player to add. He gives us a lot of the missing skills, and should help bring out the best of Partey, Saka AND Smith Rowe.

Orny says when we looked at Brandt, we ain't convinced. We looked at Buendia we are not convinced he is top top tier.

But when we saw Odegaard is available we couldn't afford to miss out on him even for a loan
