Navas would want big money, he'll be looking for one last payday. Three years of Navas at £200k+/week (he earns £210k reportedly at PSG) and you're sinking £30-40m into him over 3 years, and he'd be 34 at the start of the contract and retiring or with zero resale value at the end of it. My main gripe would be that I actually can't stand him as a goalkeeper though. I think he's an error prone, flashy shot-stopper, and nothing more. I don't rate him with the ball at his feet either, which is supposed to be the main reason we're moving on from Leno.
You're dropping a bunch of seriously hot takes recently. The keeper who was instrumental in three CL wins is error prone flashy and nothing more. Are there any keepers or football players in general for what it's worth left that you actually rate.
I rate lots of footballers very highly, but there are far, far too many that get hyped to the moon because the media, in its various forms, that promote football rams down the throat of everybody that something incredible, new and exciting is happening every season, ever week, every minute. In reality, it's mostly at a pretty low ebb, and has been on a downward trend in some respects for years.
On Navas, I sometimes laugh out loud watching him play. Whether it's because he gets beaten at his near post, stands watching a cross come into his 6-yard box or because he punches or parries a tame cross/shot. But I do find him a fun watch because he'll pull a top drawer save out every now and then too.
I suppose you think Victor Valdes was a superstar keeper at Barcelona too then? Or the droves other players we could list that have won trophies galore, playing as important first teamers at that, whom are merely decent, average, or downright shit.
Jordan Pickford nearly won an international tournament recently. He was being talked about by a not insignificant amount of posters on here as a very good, even top, goalkeeper. Jordan fucking Pickford! Or let's go with another Jordan, this time Jordan Henderson - he's played for, captained and been integral to, a team that has been dominant over the past few years. The quality of the whole doesn't necessarily correlate with the quality of the individual.
