If I were the manager, I'd tell him that he can be the first choice RB if he wants for a 12 month period and if he doesn't cut it, we always have Cedric who is passable there. Unfortunately, our great manger doesn't do flexibility and adjustment but needs the perfect player in each position before he starts taking an iota of responsibility for anything. It's unbelievable that our squad building is basically splunking 50M in each window on a single player who is "perfect" for Arteta without taking into account that these guys may fail or, if they succeed, leave before we build anything meaningful.
