Someone at the top end of the club’s hierarchy needs to take control of this situation and make it clear beyond any doubts that we aren’t about to waste a £30m young asset with elite potential just because a rookie with the arrogance of Guardiola and the ability of Gareth Southgate has decided for whatever reason that he doesn’t rate him. We can’t allow an intern with no managerial or talent-spotting pedigree to dictate matters that will affect the long-term health of the team. There’s no end to the damage he’s capable of doing while we allow him to have the type of control that only a Wenger esque exceptional case should have. Can only hope Saliba realizes that he’ll outlast him and stays patient.

Arsenal are entirely incompetent but Saliba is a nothing player in the grand scheme of things. Getting worked up over him or indeed anyone on Arsenal's books bar Saka is pointless.

disagree. right now, we're outside of the top 4, and europe all together. we'll see if we can attract big names while not having any european competition to offer. its one thing to sign an inexperienced english centerback from a team worse than ours, its another to have the appeal to elite talent from abroad.

saliba is, by all accounts, an excellent talent. someone we were probably fortunate to sign at the time, and someone we shouldnt be allowing to leave. we spent a lot of money on his potential, and we havent managed him well. some mid-table team from france isnt going to offer us £40m for him, and theres no way we should be even considering taking less than we paid for him. we should be giving him every opportunity to win a starting place here

no-one is arguing that saliba is a sure thing. it's the handling of the entire situation that throws up red flags about the decision making of the people in charge. it's all sweet until it's too late and you're looking back at a catalogue of costly balls-ups that were obvious all along

That's the main thing gaz. From the very beginning it's a huge red flag. Like I said, you can't possibly think Mustafi etc jokers are better than him. And that even if you want to loan your 30m defender and missed it, you don't then exclude him completely for every bloody competition and force him to play u23s. Arteta has shown himself to be pig headed a couple of times already. If these rumours are really true its a lot more likely this is more of the same baseless arrogance than any yet unknown feature to Salibas game or character

Absolutely agree. This is exactly the result of having no one with any credibility or competence on the footballing side in the executive team. We had the same thing in the Wenger days and felt the impact and now, we have someone with less than 10% of his competence calling the shots.

The issue is as I mentioned Arteta has nothing to warrant that ego with. Guardiola got rid of Ronaldinho and alienated Etoo, two of the best players ever but he did it winning the treble in his first season in charge. Most people would give Arteta the benefit of doubt regarding Saliba if he had Holding and Gabriel playing like a title winning centre back pairing, instead we're sitting midtable warding off Aston fucking Villa trying to approach our players eighteen months in.

He took over a team that got 67 points. Nobody said that Barcelona had "three of the best five players in the world" then.
