They bought a championship midfielder and bid unsuccessfully for a guy with barely 30 top class appearances. If we made those 'statements', half the fans would want to burn the stadium down.
They bought the POTY for The Championship, and one who was the 4th best creative player in the PL in his debut season, and was also subject of a prior transfer bid by one of the big6 that finished above them in the table. They then made a subsequent bid for a player considered to have been instrumental in turning the season around at that same top6 club.
IMO that's the equivalent of us doing the same to one of the current top4 in terms of comparison. like if we'd signed Havertz after CFC had made an opening bid, and then we made an offer for Mount.
Perhaps the lesson to be learned by us is about our constant want to bid 'unders' on players, and looking more towards our finances rather than actually making a bid that discourages other clubs from bidding? We make it harder for ourselves than it needs to be, particularly if it is a player/roe/position that needs to be addressed and/or is a priority.
