marriage of convenience. xhaka for better or worse is a big figure in the dressing room and the pitch, and seems the type to win coaches trust pretty quickly. from a new coaches perspective, it's a safe bet to leverage that

saw another Italian journalist reporting that we asked for 25m, but Roma are willing to pay 20m. that feels about right

Agree, getting rid of Xhaka is a step in the right direction. However I fear Neves might end up being more of a sideways step rather than moving forward. Though to be fair I think Neves is more press resistant and better at moving the ball quicker.

I agree that Neves should be able to evade the press better than Xhaka.

It is the mobility I can’t get over, we have a chance to really shake up the team through our midfield, and Neves just feels like more of the same.

Not that I see the comparison anyway, none of those players left because they wanted playing time. If we get rid of Willock and Saliba, not that I think we will, that will clearly be the reason.

Nasri was as talented as any of the others. Just full of indiscipline.

He was very talented and I liked him a lot, but by the time we let him go it was pretty clear that he would never be a van Persie/Fabregas/Sanchez.

Nasri is a super flawed player. He is incredibly skillful, but very hardly influential in games.

Will be remembered as a nothing player in years to come

£30m for Willock would be understandable, I'm not sure I see him as being a sure fire starter for us somewhere down the line so in that context it's definitely tempting.

Saliba is different because he is or at least was widely regarded as one of the best young centre backs around who we've invested a lot of time and money into. If we left without ever stepping foot on the pitch for us it would be really weird and wouldn't reflect well on management regardless of what the full story may be.

Lacked discipline. I don’t think Saka is more skilled than Nasri. But he is more intelligent on the field and much more hardworking.

If your objective is to build the strongest possible starting line up, it is probably wise to take £30m for Willock if you’re capital constrained. However, please don’t then spend that money on Neves.

I thought Quincy was talking about Alexis who was broken by the time he left.

None of those players were sold against their will is the point. We were broke back then and had to downgrade for financial reasons, now we're doing it because apparently one of the biggest centre back talents in the world isn't good enough to break into a backline that has or had Mustafi Holding Luiz etc in it. I'm not sure about Willock making it here either but if we're selling him for 30m while Liverpool are getting close to that for guys like Ings Brewster or Solanke then we're simply not doing enough. Chelsea sold Pasalic to Atalanta for 15m this summer, an Italian skint club paid that for a player who spent six consecutive years on loan away from the rent boys never having made a single appearance for their first team. Do you think they would be asking for 30m for an English national player in the ridiculous kind of form Willock is in?

I actually was talking about Nasri who despite the undeniable talent never showed the heights that van Persie, Sanchez and Fabregas did for us. I do remember a Ramsey-like spree where he was unstoppable for a couple of months though.
