Think his technical level is a cut above players like Guendouzi too, in addition to the goals. There's a lot to like about him.
Yeah I don't get why people play down his technical level its pretty good. What his game has lacked is maturity and an ability to impose himself on the game. He's done it more and more in his time with Newcastle though and I think he's still got more to learn. Plus he's not fully physically mature yet. By the time he's 23 he'll be stronger on top of what he's already doing and then he'll be a major player. He has to be one of our main 4 midfield options next season and he should be given a new deal this summer too after what he's shown.
Yep, people keep suggesting that he has played a more advanced role because he's not good enough on the ball, but I think they're exactly wrong. It's the other way around. What he has lacked is maturity, not ability. It's the fact he has a bag of tricks at his disposal - dribbling, dropped shoulders, Cruyff feints - that makes him able to create space for himself further up the field.
You can't get Xhaka, Doozi or Elneny to play like that, and it's not because they're better on the ball. It's because they can't cope with the pressure in attacking spaces. All of them are slow on the ball. It takes time for them to invent something. Willock has a clear idea about what he wants to do before he gets the pass, before he goes into press. That's why he turns better, dribbles better and moves better.
I think we should have bet on him instead of Ceballos this season, and I think we'll regret it if we don't back him next year. His recent form is not a flash in the pan. Just look at how he played in Europa League for us earlier this season. I went back and read the match threads a while ago and people were gushing over his performances.
